* Re: Kamala Harris. Given the givens, I think she's a solid choice. He needs someone with a national profile and he said a while ago he was picking a women. Stacey Abrams dropped out of the running herself, as she mentioned in an interview I saw about a week ago. (It doesn't surprise me. Given the level of voter suppression and out right cheating in the governor's race last time around, I'd bet real money she decided she needed to put her full attention into fighting for a fair election this time around. Like, I don't know, but that's ind of her thing.) The mayors on the likely list all had at least some national name recognition, but Lightfoot, and to a certain extent Bottoms, made some serious mistakes after George Floyd, and that's not a help right now. Klobacher would have been shooting himself in the foot, rather like Hillary did with Tim Caine last time only worse, because her prosecutorial record is palling enough to be a serious negative and her only positive is Biden gets along with her. They are about the same level of moderate, but she doesn't bring excitement or a new constituency with her. Honestly, Warren's better in the Senate, than as VP. Susan Rice was a solid option. Really bright, the right sort of stubborn and poise to stand up to the misgynoir that would be heaped on her, because she's weathered it before, and he'd worked well with her in the past, but she's not that charismatic, and turn out is everything right now.

Look folks, I am completely aware of her mixed prosecutorial legacy, but she's a lot better than Klobacher. She's shown a willingness to listen to criticism and learn from it. There's been an upward trend policy wise. She admits her mistakes. (Lack of flexibility was one of Bernie sander's weak points as a candidate. It's one of 45's worse traits. Both Biden and Harris have fucked up quite a bit over the years, but they actually learn and change positions based on new data. Don't discount it).

She's a little week in a bunch of policy areas, but she's incredibly fucking bright and motivated and I trust her to be able and willing to do the kind of work she'll need to do to get up to speed. Don't underestimate this quality either, because it's essential, especially given Biden's age. She has no shortage of mental and physical energy which she is going to need for both the campaign and if they (let us all hope) win. She was one of if not the most left of the moderate candidates in the primary cycle. In an ideal world, would I want more? Yes, but look out your window, we are living in the bad timeline, the one step away from apocalypse in our lifetime times line. Look at the first paragraph: This is as good as it was going to get after they way primary season shook out, and there's a reason she was on my VP short list once Biden looked likely.

I've seen her in debate and questioning witnesses in senate hearings. She will eat Pence (or any other VP 45 is likely to pick) for breakfast. One of the best arguments for her in the primary was that she would likely do the same to 45. The job of the VP is to fight. It's important in the campaign, but exponentially more important in governing. A lot of the vp job is running around behind the scenes and doing the carrot and stick to get votes lined up in congress to push the executive agenda through. (Does this sound like about half of what I said Nancy Pelosi's job was ina bunch of other posts? Yes. That's because most of the leadership jobs in Congress involve some mix of that and fundraising. The VP mostly does that and diplomacy, plus defend the president and show up for functions the President hasn't time for. A lot of real governing is sausage making). She's been senator long enough and has the right kind of relationships to make a kick ass vp as far as sausage making and she's excellent at thinking on her feet and being incredibly fucking tough with the kind of people we'll be up against in the campaign and the next five years. She has thick skin and will be up to handling the misgynoir already being dumped on her from the other side. I don't think the claims that she's a bolshevik are gong to stick, because, um, prosecutor, and a lot of the attacks I'm seeing are going to slide right off because they are about as mind numbingly out of touch with reality.

She can do this job, and she's the best we could reasonably have gotten at this point.

Please, please, let's the fuck elect them. We can push from the left after we get them in. They are rational people we can deal with, who actually think democracy is a good idea and don't want the world to burn, which puts them worlds ahead of what we have now. Don't let the perfect get in the way of good or better.

Are you registered to vote? Have you been illegally kicked off the voter rolls in the latest republican push to kill the right of ordinary people to vote? Go! Check now! While you are at it, order your absentee ballot so you don't have to breath Covid in a six hour line on November 3rd. If you haven't filled out your household census, do that too. It's like an extra five minutes and it does things like get money and congressional representation for your community. It also helps fight Republican gerrymandering.

Don't fuck around with this! Do it now if you haven't already!

* Wednesday: Props to the Washington State medical System! I got my results back this evening, and I'm negative as expected. I have started my antibiotics as a result and am already queasy. This week and a half is going to suck, above and beyond the off the AS meds for the duration, but I can't afford to fuck around in a Plague Summer. I still have to go in for a doctor thing Friday for meds revision at the worst time of the day sleep wise, but this could all be much worse.

I got four phone calls today. I had just started to drift off when one of the usual scammers woke me. Unless there is a real emergency (someone in the hospital or dead) or a prior arrangement (like an airport pick up), no one legitimate phones at 7:09AM. About an our later a fucking Police PAC woke me up spewing robot generated hate and fear. Fuck those guys! Second number blocked. The other two were medical and completely reasonable. I was up, medicated, and dressed by the time the COVID test people called.

Alas, no cats came for bed pets. It's a work in progress.

* Friday: I very nearly finished the aggregate in time to go to my Doctor's appointment. Nearly is not did, alas.

She wants to make sure the rotater cuff isn't actually injured, before trying AS mitigation on the shoulder joint, so I had to go get rather a lot of x-rays. I get a shoulder ultrasound late next week, after which we'll see about sorting it one way or the other.

I am so used to things like this not having much that can be done beyond what I'm already doing, that it startled me when it turned out there actually might be things that could be done.

She wanted to double check some things before switching muscle relaxants, but odds are Monday or Wednesday, I'll have something I can use more often than every two or three days.

I had next to no sleep and an online social engagement that precluded me working as drugged as I need to be not to curl up in a ball and weep from the pain and nausea. The amount of holding my arm in extremely painful positions involved in the x-ray process really fucked up the shoulder again and I'm back in the sling. I'm going to post the aggregate, do bath and lungs and then go to bed. sorry about not doing any Friday news and the lateness of the Tuesday/Wednesday aggregate.
