* I'm still in bad shape from Saturday and I still had to tackle the pile of things in the sink that turned up soiled in the cleaning, plus laundry, and a bunch of small things.

Bonus: The fire alarmed woke me at 10:30AM sharp. The Imperial Couple hid in seconds, of course. In a real fire I'd have no hope of retrieving them. I was on my feet pulling on the trousers I'd mended just before sleep and a slobbing around shirt when I remembered it was Sunday, not Monday, so it couldn't be the inspectors turning up a couple of days early.

Shit!

From the sound I suspected building wide, but I yelled to see if it was squirrel showering. It was not. Front door was cold. Hall alarms and lights going. Fire door closed. Yep, building wide. It's never a real fire, and my bladder can't wait a half an hour after waking to be let back in the building, so quick pee, keys, messenger bag, and crutch. I was closing the patio door behind me when Squirrel appeared. The evacuation plans call for everyone to go out front doors into the hallway of a theoretically burning building and through two sets of doors. Obviously, that's nonsense for bottom floor people when we have the patio doors. I emerged from ours the same time the nice single mom down the way was herding her extremely well behaved children out, each of the kids carrying a cat crate. O.o In the time it took Squirrel to dress, they'd caught and crated two panicked animals, got everyone in shoes and out the door. Seriously, I suspect that woman of being a superhero. I noticed a grad student looking couple heading straight for the min-gym which is in the building across. Damned clever. Another grad student looking couple got right in their car and drove away. Supermom and her incredibly well brought up kids stowed their cat crates in there car which luckily for them was away from the building so excellent call there. I set my back to a parking pillar, lowered myself to the pavement in the evacuation area and read for about fifteen minutes till the firemen arrived. They milled around for a while putting on jackets and eventually one went in and turned off the alarm. They milled around some more, then left with no explanation.

One of the people milling where firemen were instead of standing in the evacuation area said it did smell like smoke in there and that someone had said something about a cooking fire. The central section did smell like a bad frying accident when we got into the foyer. I'm guessing they'd been frying pork chops or rather bland sausage from the smell. Look, back when I was young I used to make donuts sometimes of a weekend for my then partner. You get the occasional grease fire doing that. You pull it off the burner and put a lid on it to deprive the fire of oxygen. Turn the stove off, open windows and make sure every fan you have is on. It's no big deal, solved in minutes. My guess is they hadn't turned their hood on before starting and panicked from the fire, then panicked from the alarm and just left it. I mean, I've set it off burning toast here before and it starts in just your apartment if you do that. Squirrel sets it off every time he forgets to turn on a fan when he showers. Clear the smoke and it stops really quick instead of evacuating the building.

It took ages to get back to sleep. Tavy calmed down about a half hour after they let us back in and spent the rest of the day on or about my person. I didn't see Livia until mid afternoon. She wouldn't come for pettins and she didn't really calm down until I restocked all the busy boxes at lung time.

* I worked out a way to make swim aerobics work with today's schedule. Cue me at 6:30AM assembling my swim bag. No swimsuit in it's drawer. No swimsuit anywhere I could conceive of it going. Really though? When I get back from the lake I wash it and hang dry it in the shower and it goes in that one drawer.

My swimsuit is gone.

I likely wore it last towards the end of August. I spent hours looking. I took everything out of it's drawer and another drawer. I searched the bathroom even though if it had been in there I'd have seen it in the intervening months and put it back in it's dawn drawer. I opened drawers I haven't opened in a year or more even though I knew damned well it wouldn't be in there. I searched the trunk of my car.

I do not have $40-60 dollars for a new suit. It's a catastrophic loss. I know they won't let me use my swim scholarship without a suit. They kick people out for shorts, not that I have shorts I can ruin with chlorine. I'd need it anyway in a couple of months when it's warm enough for the lake.

Swimming is the only safe form of exercise for me. Fuckfuckfuck.

And swimsuit shopping is a discouraging nightmare that eats up a huge amount of time because sites like Amazon lie. I type in my size and they give me a selection of suits. I finally find one I'd be willing to be caught dead in. Half my size. Why the fuck are they listing it as my size then? And the specialist sites tend to be super ugly and or super expensive. I do not have 250.00 for a suit. If I had that kind of money, I'd have replaced the dying TV. It's just literally hours of frustrating and discouraging internet searching or driving all over town and finding nothing or at best one suit.

Not that I have the gas for that anyway. I did try to put ten in Sunday when I took the Library books back, but they were out of gas again.

So I should be swimming as I typed this. There will be no swimming.

Bonus for loud machinery yard work starting at 8AM that terrified the cats back into hiding and was so loud I couldn't turn the TV up loud enough to hear it and I got to do part of the searching with that horrendous noise going on.
