* I've been rewatching "Kolchack: the Night Stalker," a show I liked when I was literally 4, and have not seen since, because it was not popular with people who's ages weren't in single digits. It does not hold up, and seriously do not feel bad if you've never heard of it. Basically, my dad and I would watch anything with Monsters or space ships in it. (Seriously, we watched Quark, which had like 7 or 8 episodes and disappeared for ever because we were about the only people watching it.) So Kolchack os a newspaper guy who discovers and fights monsters basically, really cheezey low budget monsters while somehow not getting fired by his boss for blowing off all his assignments to hunt out stuff he can't print.
Me, like 50x an episode: Seriously, why isn't he fired?
It is very 1974, if you know what I mean, with this weird mix of things like massage parlors and murdered sex workers, but writing, acting, and characterization aimed for the age in single digits crowd. Like why even is this show? It is very like pringles in that both are objective horrible, yet somehow one consumes them against all reason.
Periodically there will actually be a random, competent female character helping Kolchack with the whole monster situation, but they inevitably disappear at the end of the episode. Why is that plum, intelligent, and helpful female reporter from the pilot not a recurring character, or that surprisingly helpful and competent woman from the werewolf infested cruise ship who could have been developed by better writers into a character with an arc who maybe could be a monster hunter.
I am seven episodes in, rather wishing that devil dog would maul him properly instead of just biting him a little, even though I know the whole stumbling around being obnoxious and bad at his job saves likes.
This show is a mess and terrible. I can tell I will likely end up watching all of them t a rate of abut once a week.
It's like staring at a car wreck, really.
