* An pro-Assad group in Lebanon is threatening to kidnap folks from Sunni dominant countries friendly to the free Syrian Army. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have told their nationals in Lebanon to evacuate.

* Police in South Africa shot at least 18 miners striking for better wages. It may go up as there's no word on the wounded.

* My State continues to burn, along with twelve others. Our fire is 25% contained. Folks are losing everything including their livesock. The drought and high winds are helping the fire move fast. It's suspected to be mad made and spread from a construction site.

For folks not familiar with geography out here, I'm further North. Unlike with il_volpe and the catastrophic Colorado fires, I can not see it from my apartment, nor am I in any danger. I mention this as it's easy for people in smaller states (and countries) to see the name of a state and not grasp the size of things out here.

* It's hot enough to seriously fuck with my sleep. Poor Squirrel has to put up with me walking around in my underwear. (I'm traditionally a nudist at home, but compromise when I have a roommate I'm not fucking. Normally I go with tee shirt and underwear, but I'm hard put not to strip entirely.) The cats are miserable, of course, especially the Senior Beasties. (Mache has an incredibly thick undercoat; Hector is a long hair). It's the cat reenactment of melted watches around here. Hector is mostly starving himself, of course, so I had to lock him up so I could eat. The Butt followed him into exile, thinking Hector must be getting something good in there. He was wrong, poor thing. In this heat, they get extra goosh rations to help with hydration, Hector is still losing weight. They do better after dark, once the temperatures drop a little. Approximately two hours after sun down, everyone wants to cuddle at the same time which causes it's own problems.

* I needed to take my Rifle Coat in to be dry cleaned as I sat on some gum in it. I tried the place over by the liquor store as the previous place told me not to come back as they don't like my kind there. The cleaning cost a quarter of the other place. I'm kicking myself for not noticing this cleaner until right before I moved since it's a couple of blocks from my old place (Literally on the most direct route between the two apartments). Fast, cheap, polite, and not judgey FTW!

* Remember that drought that's killing crops all over the Midwest and causing 13 states to burn? The same global climate change caused drought is withering crops over in Russia and Eastern Europe. It's going to be high food prices and possibly starvation all over the Northern hemisphere and in countries that rely on grain exports.

* Meanwhile, a whole lot of trapped pets and livestock have burned in the wildfires. Some people who's farm were consumed so fast they couldn't take anything or load any animals cut their fences to try to give the animals a chance to escape. They are trying to round up survivors and folks are donating time, space, food, and veterinary expertise until the owners can claim them. CNN's got a list of charities to help human and Animal survivors here: http://www.cwu.edu/taylorbridgefire#how-help

* Every time I hear a reference to Paul Ryan and the Wiener Mobile, I imagine some very wrong Paul Ryan/Anthony Wiener slash. I want it out of my head. Gah!

* Today was sleep in and do housework and accounts day. I was reasonably successful. (It was just enough cooler today that my sleep was only mildly disrupted. I really need squirrel to take out the recycling and trash to clean properly, but I did the important stuff. Accounts are sorted though.) Karjack's been randomly all over my dreams this week, randomly dragged into the latest version of the St. John's nightmare and a bunch of Corvallis stuff completely out of context. Last night, she skipped my trip to the Underworld at least.
