Tuesday's Entry From Before the Outage

* The Chinese are right to be furious. I'm furious. At the same time, as someone from Philly, clearly the mistake was sending it to the Franklin Institute and not the University Museum or Philadelphia Museum of art. (Look, I loved the Franklin Institute growing up and it's likely way more secure than it was when I was small, but if I remember correctly and things haven't changed drastically, it's also full of running and screaming barely supervised children trying to touch everything and has a vast number of hands on exhibits, which is apt to incline even adults to be less careful about not touching what they shouldn't). I am also rather amazed it was some asshole from Delaware and not the local assholes. (Again, I grew up there and while no longer local, am certainly an asshole, just not the sort of person who desecrates 2200ish year old art for fun). It could easily have been so much worse, which doesn't excuse it. It's more an expression of relief on my part that it was one thumb and not a smashed statue.
