* If we ever get to the point where it no longer CAN snow in Winter, we are likely all dead anyway.
The melting of the Ice Caps means more water in the atmosphere, which means that when it’s cold enough to snow one tends to get bigger, more extreme storms.
We melted a North West Passage in the Arctic. You can see it in satellite pictures in the Summer. Like all you have to do is look at the pictures. It doesn’t require a scientist to see how fucked up things are It’s not frigging imaginary and it’s creating ecosystem havoc in the far North.

* Friday, I stayed up for 9AM bureaucracy. I timed things so perfectly, that I was standing in front of the door about two minutes before it unlocked. I got the last bit of paper and headed on to crime scene number two, where I efficiently copied my stack, collated and double checked everything, and got in line to get sorted into the second line for the actual bureaucracy final step. I was out by about 10:30. When I got home, I put the originals away in assorted locations, did some necessary things in the garden on the grounds that the sun goes down between 4-5PM this time of year and I couldn't waste a chance at doing a little clearing in the light, did lungs, and was ready for bed around 11:30, by which time my legs were barely working, my fever was way up, and the pain was impressive even by my standards.
At which point I discovered what that horrific crashing sound during lungs was. I am pretty sure it was Livia as Tavy made this mistake twice early in his tenure here and hasn't bothered with the top bedroom storage shelf since. Don't worry, there is nothing heavy or breakable up there on purpose. Odds are the cat was using her investigating feet and made a grand jump up onto an exciting new ledge only to discover she was in the middle of an avalanche poor creature. I went looking for her to make sure all was fine, and she'd fallen asleep in her hide and all her bits seemed fine. She got up and walked for me, and again, the shelf has nothing apt to hurt a cat if it falls.
Alas, not only had their been an avalanche, but someone had had a bad case of the blerps all over the bed, I'm guessing while I was off doing epic bureaucracy, from the evidence, and then hidden it with their cuddling blanket. I discovered this when I went to straighten the blanket and put my hand right in it. Now, changing the sheets and pillow cases was on my weekend chore list because it needed doing with the lung infection, but also just generally. The problem is, this is an hour+ job, and putting a new fitted sheet on is really best done with two people as the mattress is heavy and really it works best if two people pull from opposite undersides to straighten and secure at the headboard. Squirrel had left on some mission of his own right before lung time. Sigh. I really prefer to do this at night as I only have one padded liner, and the bug proof liner is weird textured without the padding on top, but there is no helping it. I managed as best I could.
I picked the right med combo, apparently, as I did get good sleep and my legs are working reasonably well with what I consider to be manageable pain. (My scale of manageable is likely very far from and able bodied person's as my version of barely in pain is about a 4-5 on the pain chart they show you at hospitals, and my "unbearable" is hurts so much I no longer control the body part/literally can't move it). I can live with bearable. I did get the laundry started when I got up. All the fish and cats are fed. I made an emergency dinner and can handle sitting upright. The year end bureaucracy is complete and I'm very much calling that a win, as I managed it in about a week and a half even working around a major holiday that closes key offices.
* TNG: Season 6 Rewatch:
- 6.15 Tapestry: This is the road not takenIt's a Wonderful Life Picard back story one, where Q takes him to a decision point in his past while he is dying. We start with Picard's Daddy issues and then on to the survivor guilt. So we finally found out what happened to his heart. The central change is caution instead of risk. Fundamentally it's about the difference between the choices one makes when young vs. the one's one makes when old. We loved it when it was new, but I am finding it sad and exhausting. This is of course why I never would want to go back. I just... don't see the point of this "lesson." Unlike George Baily, Picard wasn't questioning his choices and Q forced him onto the path not taken. I think the thing falls apart on the second viewing, whereas back in 18993 it was exciting to know more about Picard's history.
