Which they did. All day off and on. Starting with when I lay down to sleep. She’ll have been here a week Saturday evening and they are already BFFs.
I had a dream that a group of queer friends and I were play testing/reviewing a new game not yet out on the market. It was a sort of inclusive cross between paper dolls and that game they used to market for girls in the '60's where you tried to get dates. The paper dolls were basically the date options. There were ten of them, I think. They came in androphilic, gynophilic, and bi orientations, and a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. They had their stats printed on the back and there were a variety of outfits. The board was a bit like the game of life crossed with Talisman. The paper dolls were sturdy and came with little plastic stands as they were placed on the board during play based on chance type cards.
Anyway, as there were only ten options, there was an element of tokenism for obvious reasons. My friends got into a massive debate about the one trans option, which was a straight white woman whose paper doll looked rather like Danica Roem. Some people really wanted her to be bi and/or black or latina. Some other people were angry there wasn't a trans man of colour. Others wanted an non-binary option which some wanted to be pan and other ace. Which... feels pretty realistic to me. We have so little representation in media, and while it's gotten a lot better, at least in the sort of things I watch, the lion's share tends to be white women.
I finally said, "Nothing is stopping us from drawing our own paper dolls to be any thing we want. I used to draw whatever sort of paper dolls my sister and her friends wanted when we were small. Really though, they need to sell booster packs with more date options."
I stand by that. I also rather wish this game existed.
