* During last month's car excitement, we had occasion to lift the rear seating compartment, something I had literally forgotten we had and had never used since I bought the car. To my horror, there were several inches of rusty water in there, which would explain the mold issue. My assumption is years of rain water. *Shudder* Something had to be done. Today I went out and tried to siphon it, which is nasty as siphoning means you get it in your mouth. The water having completely saturated the padding, It takes two hands to left, and you have to hold it up, as all the internal mechanisms had rusted, which means putting down equipment where one can reach while propping it open with a forearm. This is terrible design. If water is prone to gather in there, they should have put a drainage valve. It turned out that siphoning wasn't going to work as it wasn't quite deep enough for the siphon, so I had to hand bail a couple ounces at a time out of the wide shallow chamber. Exhausting and time consuming, painful for the propping arm. Water continuously drained from the padding. Luckily I wore one of the two brown shirts I own as I was quickly covered in rust. I did the trick were you lean on a corner of the bumper to make that corner a little deeper and did manage to get a lot out, but there is an inevitable limit. I went to the recycling, but this being 2017 there wasn't even one newspaper in thee for the whole complex. I did find two scholastic catalogues with phone book like pages, and sopped up what I could with that. I left it with cardboard on the bottom, propping it partially open for airing while sopping up more rust water. I came in and washed myself, did dishes, sorted out the plants, ate and lunged. A proper grown up would go change the cardboard, but I am exhausted and I'd have to change again and... Yeah.

Update: Squirrel has agreed to change the cardboard before and after work. Yaaaayyyyy!
