Aug. 13th, 2012 05:12 am* Looks like a bunch of stuff is happening in Egypt. The defense minister and the head of the armed forces. The Egyptian president says he's cancelling the constitutional Declaration they forced in to give the military extra powers over the civilian government. I know enough to know how thin the tightrope is here, so I'm not expressing an opinion until I here what credible Egyptian moderates are saying, rather than going with Western opinions in forming my own.
* There were some catastrophic earthquakes in Tabriz and environs in Iran on Saturday. Survivors need food, water, and blankets. Over 300 are dead, and many more wounded. They are still digging folks out.
* The Ryan/Romney economic plan looks like taking the Vulture capitalism model to the public sector to me. They are saying they will come in and fire as many teachers/librarians/fireman/police/etc. that they can get away with. they will cancel all the benefit plans you paid into as a tax payer like medicare/medicaid/social secutity/unemployment insurance as well as ending investment in the future of the country in the form of student loan subsidies and infrastructure like roads and bridges. They say they will get rid of all the environmental and health and safety regulations as well. All the money they saved from this, they are giving to the richest 1%, who judging from Romney's own conduct will squirrel that away in overseas savings accounts. Rather than lower the deficit as they are promising, they are simply planning to cause massive human misery and economic damage simply to make people exactly like Mitt Romney richer while further running up the deficit. Once they have deliberately dismantled the middle class and completely gutted the economy as they are promising to do, I am guessing the richest 1% can follow their looted money overseas and leave the rest of us to live in the hellscape they created. See? It's Bain on a country wide scale.
I think who to vote for is clear if you want the services you already paid for like your Medicare and Social Security and to live in a country with a functional economy and infrastructure. Do we want the richest 1% to deliver the finishing blow in their massive class warfare against the rest of us, or do we want to fight back?

* Just before bed yesterday, I spotted the new suckermouth grazing. It's a little smaller and darker than the other and both were out. I saw all the new fish at feeding time today. The hitchhiker guppy fry is schooling with the new grown ups, which makes me happy. I brought in all the plants except the lilies tonight. (I am told lilies kill cats.) I lifted the lily over the wall instead, in the hopes that if they paint tomorrow they can do it without messing with the planter.
Hector spent five hours on tantrums and inconsolable howling (I don't want you to touch me, but I don't want you petting other cats! I'm not willing to eat more than a mouthful at a time, but I'm going to start howling again before you can even sit down after your last attempt to feed me! I will demand you pet me than try to bite you!), then went and ruined my food in the brief window it couldn't be in the oven because I was preheating it for cooking it. (I have to hide my food in the oven or the microwave if there's a gap between food prep and eating or a gap between me eating some now and some later. He's become extremely aggressive about stealing in the last couple of months, because he's decided he would rather only eat human food, goosh, and treats. He's not allowed to eat human food so you can immediately see the problem.) He and the Butt tag teamed me to spoil my sleep. The Butt has taken to howling at me on hector's behalf so I can eat in peace without having to fight Hector for every bite. Sometimes, cats are assholes.
* Olympics Day 13 and 14 I love Rhythmic Gymnastics. I know Americans don't give a fuck, but it's beautiful. Thanks to the Canadians, I got to watch it this year. Out Australian Diver, Matt Micthem didn't make it to the diving finals. Damn.
Is Canadian Olympic coverage perfect? No, but this year they completely kicked NBC's ass as far as showing stuff I wanted to see and representing people from a variety of countries even in events where no Canadians were in the finals, and for commentators just generally enjoying excellence for the sake of excellence. Thank you Canada for piping your significanty more fun Olympics coverage to those of us living nearby.
