* Revised casualty figures for the Colorado Batman massacre are 12 dead, 58 wounded. The mass murderer dropped out of a Ph.d program in neuroscience about a month ago, but had been stock piling weapons for several months previously. His apartment is booby trapped, so they are having to proceed slowly and the people who live in that building are still evacuated. He timed loud music to go off at midnight in his apartment and play super loud for an hour. There is a suspicion that this was intended as a first responder lure. You will notice I'm not using the murder's name or his self glorifying sobriette. I do not believe in glorifying the murderers of children.
Some of the injured are likely to have long term disabilities or ned for more help and rehabilitation than they can afford. those interested in helping the survivors should go here: https://givingfirst.org/
It is also just generally a good idea to give blood if you are legally allowed to and your health permits.
* Mayor Bloomberg and Melissa Harris Perry point out that these events are made worth by a lack of sane gun legislation: Pt. 1 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#48266415

* Meta Moment: I got the news about the Aurora shooting from the BBC last night. They were trying to cover the serious as all fuck events unfolding in Syria and the early reporting of the mass murder at the same time. They then tried to cut to the business news. For the most part, the BBC hosts are pretty icy calm and unshakable, but you could see them struggle with the transition. It was like he had a thought balloon over his head saying, "How the Hell do I follow all that violence with talk about corn and soybean crops and drought." They fumbled it a little, but soldiered on and then next iteration were smoother. It was surprisingly human, and strangely touching.
* How stupid is it that Craig Ferguson's cold open addressing the Colorado shootings had me in tears?
* I apologize for the lack of news from Syria in particular, but non-US news commentary in general. I simply hadn't the energy to go hunting overseas news sources and the US news cycle was understandably all Colorado.
* John Stewart points out that using Michelle Bachmann’s “logic,” Michelle Bachmann herself has significantly closer ties to Al Queada than Huma Abedin does to the Muslim Brotherhood, yet Michelle Bachmann is not saying that the same tenuous logic proves that she herself is a traitor and terrorist.

* Thanks to one of you kindly sending me a big bag of yeast, I made some bread tonight. I am suspecting the yeast is a little old, so next time, I'm doubling up on it, but it worked fine.
* Squirrel and I went to see the Dark Knight Rises, but I really wasn't up to doing a full review under the circumstances. Greenwick wrote a really good one with which I mostly agree. My thoughts and single caveat are in the comments if you are interested: http://greenwick.livejournal.com/123475.html?style=mine
* They've been running commercials for that Neighborhood watch movie. While I am fond of Ben Stiller, I find Jonah hill and Vince Vaughn deeply abhorrent, and the movie looks boring and annoying. (The look at my face scene means I will never watch it even for free). Beyond all this though, I'm just having a really hard time finding a bunch of mostly white heavily armed rogue neighborhood watch guys shooting at people funny right now. It's just a little too close to reality, you know?
