I forgot to Post this Last Night
Mar. 20th, 2012 07:36 pm* I see the republicans are pushing a "Jobs Bill" that will further deregulate Wall Street. After all, deregulation caused the massive economic crash and look at all the jobs that "created." Clearly "job creation" is Republican code for firing people. After all, stripping away consumer protections only helps the top .1% who benefit from ripping off investors, and we know those folks have nothing to do with improving the economy. Why another economic collapse is a major Republican goal, I don't understand, but this continues to be the case.
* The House Republicans are doing up yet another budget that is intended to abolish medicare in favour of making the elderly and disabled by insurance on the private market, cut social security, etc..
* In Tennessee, Republicans are pushing a law to require the names of women seeking abortion to be published along with the Doctors performing procedures. remember, the right to privacy only belongs to men. Women's medical decisions are not private, but public property in the Republican world view. After all, they want the government to make medical decisions for women, not the women themselves.

I'm so glad the media's staying on this. It happens all to often and gets buried.
As of today, the local police are still refusing to investigate. After all a teenager armed only with skittles is so scary that a grown man in a car was terrified into hunting him down, getting out of the car, and murdering him. I mean, it's not like the man in the car could have driven away like the police told him too. No, self defense required hunting him down and killing him. The police chief wants you to know the shooter is the real victim here, after all what was the murdered boy doing there? This disgusts me. Here we are in the twenty first century and Florida police are still endorsing white men hunting down black teenagers and murdering them for the crime of being out after dark in his relative's neighborhood. It might as well be a hundred years ago in Florida.
The congressional black caucus is pushing the Justice Department to look at it as a hate crime. Those federal protections were originally put in place because Southern Jurisdictions kept not investigating lynching and the like. Seems to me, this is not substantially different from the cases this law was designed for. I wish the Congressional Black Caucus all the best on getting an actual investigation.
* Today Squirrel and I did some banking, then I went on an ultimately fruitless errand up the guide. I also dropped off some bureaucracy and changed books at the library. I failed to hit the other two bits of bureaucracy before five, so I'm calling that Wednesday's problem.
* I dreamed that we were on the downslope of civilization. There was a science education/amusement park called "The T-Rex Ranch." The solar panels and windmill farm still made enough juice to run some of the animatronic dinosaurs and the computer info screen network, but the big rides were right out. They had a pony barn, fossil exhibit, activities, and the animatronic dinosaurs still going, but it clearly wasn't going to last. People still came to visit, but not from far away. Activities included hands on science stuff and more fun things like design a dinosaur dance. There was a girl there, who's parents had died in one of the plagues that swept through, a couple of the original curators and their associated teenagers still living there and running the ranch. They could trade ponies for other livestock and chickens and the like. Most of the little girl's schooling was from the info screens, which she didn't understand were essentially an Eliza machine rather than a true AI. It was fine if you asked questions about paleontology, archeology, geology, etc.; not so good in an emergency where someone is injured. The few adults left who were raised in the old system were trying to convert what they could to make the ranch sustainable in the long run and to keep the teens and the child safe once they were gone. It was sad and weirdly beautiful all at once.
