gwydion* Rachel Maddow did a beautiful job listing all the reasons Rick "frothy residue" Santorum should never be allowed in any position of power over another human being, let alone the presidency, so I suggest checking out tonight's show on the web if you missed it in person. Reasons include, but not limited to: 1. Wants to ban birth control. 2. Wants to make young girls carry their rapists fetuses to term. 3. Thinks we should reinvade Iraq. 4. Strongly pro-torture. 5. Wants not only to retroactively declare all gay marriages invalid, but criminalize private consensual gay sex. That means arresting LGB folk for sex in their homes. 6. Ethical hypocrisy. 7. Ban all porn. And on and on and on.
* Mitt Romney is now officially against the dream act.
* McCain is endorsing Romney. Anyone think this might have something to do with Rick Santorum claiming McCain doesn't "understand toture?" After all Sen. McCain was only tortured by the Veit Cong for five and a half years, right? What could he possibly know about it? Rick "man on dog" Santorum displayed a level of assholery there that I have trouble finding words for even now. He never apologized or acknowledged how fucked up what he said was. I don't even particularly like Mr. McCain the Politician, but I'm still furious on his behalf all these months later. Somehow, I do not think it's the sort of insult to all he suffered in service to his country Mr. McCain himself is likely to forgive.

You can find a plethora of accounts of Santorum going after McCain on torture from last May by googling "Santirum McCain torture," though they've been playing the clip on the news all evening.
* Let's add the phrase "emerging Santorum" to the list of unfortunate pundit phrases. Let's also add, "grin and bearing with Santorum."
* There were 8 votes difference between Romney and Santorum in Iowa. O.o
* Bachmann's out of the race.
* The President finally has figured out that Republicans would never pass any appointments to the Consumer Protection Bureau on the grounbds that they fundamentally believe the right of Corporate people to harm mere humans trumps any right mere human people have not to be harmed. He appointed Richard Cordray head along with enough folks to make a quorum. Rase good bye to legalized loan sharking by pay day lenders, etc.. For the record, Mr. Cordray got 53 votes out of a hundred to be confirmed, but the Republicans fillabustered. * Yes, I've seen the pictures of the president playing shirtless football. Daaaaayum! He's fifty and he looks that good half naked? Is there an aging portrait in the White House attic?
* It turned out the horrific slog North is on the 6th. This is good as I really needed the rest. My idea for how to sort out my room looks to have been a good one. I still need to do more sorting in there, but it took me two hours to get out of bed because of my spine, so I was not up to the rest of it. The pain kept waking me up today, but I was so tired, I could generally get back to sleep reasonably quickly. About an hour before bed last night, I thought of a way I could make things better for Mache in the short term without an ottoman. I haven't cat tested it on Mache yet, but I have hopes as the Butt lurves it. UPDATE: Mache is cautiously pleased. She's grumpy the old pettin throne is gone, but the bodged together substitute works. She and the Butt have been taking turns.
Tomorrow's plan is more retrenching, because I need to make room for the next batch I plan to unpack.
Things still missing besides the little tables that consistantly annoy me by not being there: hand soap, lid to my office trash can

* Back at U of O, one of my Proffs was Native American with a Native American husband. He was once pulled off a bus in LA by INS, and being Lakota and... I'm forgetting the other tribe he was enrolled with, having been born in America, having had ancesters born in what would one day be this country since they migrated across the lad bridge, he was not carrying a green card or proof of citizenship. She had to go down there with both their birth certificates, marriage certificate, etc., or they were going to deport him.
Apparently, Homeland security has deported a fourteen year old African American girl to Columbia last year under the firm belief that she was a 22 year old Columbian, despite her not speaking Spanish. She is now stranded alone in Bogata because her family can't afford to ship her home?, and Homeland Security takes no responsibility for dumping a minor in a country where she doesn't speak the language.
