Dec. 6th, 2011 12:45 am* House Republicans say they will block the extension of Pay Roll tax cuts. After all they help people who work for a living rather than the richest one percent who are the only actual humans who count to their way of thinking. They are also planning to block unemployment extensions. After all, unemployment and Social Secirity are worth $1.30-$1.35 in economic growth for every dollar invested on them, unlike the tax cuts for the the rich they favour which are only worth .30 for every dollar. In Republican math where addition is subtraction, this totally makes sense even though in actual math/economics it makes no sense at all.
* Thanks to the Bush era law designed to drain money out of the postal system, they are going to have to lay off workers after the holiday. After all, firing people who work for a living is one of the things Republicans are strongly in favor of these days. Along with those unnecessary firings, they are making the postal service slower and less efficient, and eliminating next day service which will harm businesses like netflix. Republicans would rather they close the constitutionally constituted service down, presumably because many small businesses and families rely on the cheap, efficient shipping they provide. (Think odf all the folks picking up grocery money through etsy and ebay). Harming families and small businesses by forcing them to pay double for shipping is good for the major corporations, so clearly that's a triple bonus for Republicans. After all anything that helps major corporations and harms small businesses, ordinary humans who work for a living, and the economy is good for Republicans.
* Speaking of republicans wanting to fire people. Newt Gingrich is still out there pimping his plan to eliminate child labour laws so that they can fire adults making a decent wage and replace those adult workers with cheaper child workers, with the added bonus of pulling those kids out of school so as to ensure they stay uneducated and in poverty for life. He's larded this third statement pushing this plan with plenty of digs against the poor and claims they don't know how to work. I submit, that the poor, who often work two or three back breaking jobs for subsistence know a lot more about hard work that a rich man who makes his money off fund raising scams, book tours, and speaking fees. Seems to me that when I was working full time in the nursing home and half time in fast food, I was working a lot harder than he ever has in his life, for example. May I add fuck you, you arrogant asshole, Newt Gingrich.
* I see Reality TV personality Donald trump is out pushing that Birther bullshit as a promo for a debate it looks like the Republican candidates are dumb enough to attend. Sigh. He's also come out in favour of turning children into a low paid labour force to replace adults.
* Cain's out of the race. No surprises there.
* I'd already made the appointment to reconstruct my tooth before I knew how fucked I was going to be financially this month, and the waiting list is long, so I went. They reconstructed the top tooth, and filled yet another small hole in the one directly below it while they were at it, which saves me money on a second trip. She says I really need crowns for both, but realistically, that's not happening. If I had $2000.00, I'd have a car again, for example. I already made my peace with the fact that I'll eventually lose both those teeth. They are the furthest back molars anyway, and it's not like anyone could see or that I wouldn't be able to chew properly on that side. Still, it's sad. If this had happened last year before budget cuts, it'd have been covered. Sigh. On the up side, this one was not as bad as the bottom tooth that fell apart two years ago. Most of what went was old fillings.
* Guess which box my router, keyboard, speakers, etc. were in? The last one? Go figure. Now that they are found, I need to move the stuff in the way of fixing up my computer that accumulated during the search. I hereby dub this "Tomorrow's problem," especially since the plugging of things in is something my hands do badly.
In was not really the last box, in the sense that there are still stacks of properly labelled book, DVD, and VHS boxes, but those were all packed, sorted, and stacked long before the main computer, and there are a variety of bags we through random stuff into in the last terrible days of packing, but they were packed after the break down of the main computer, so they don't really count either.
Tomorrow's plan: Doctor appointment, several key errands I missed or didn't have time for today, minor bedroom reorganization, major kitchen and work space reorganization. (I found what I hope are the last two kitchen boxes today.) Then, if I still have any spoons, the main computer.... Laid out like that, Main Computer is probably Wednesday's problem. Sigh.
Two nights ago, I let loose all the mice toys the Butt had hidden uder the sofa in the last apartment. There has been a bonanza of mice chasing from the three cats that do that. They are now mostly beheaded and/or eviscerated. Sigh. The Butt doesn't understand that they are not for eating. This is why we can't have nice things. Do not worry, Mache's getting string time. Tonight's was even solo as the junior beasties were sleeping in my room whe it was her turn
