* Re Sandusky: It seems to me that an innocent person wouldn't hesitate or need to equivocate when asked if they have a sexual interest in young boys. Just saying. I can say a clear no to that one with no thought at all. Similarly, as a former educator, I can't imagine showering alone naked with a child. I have dressed and undressed life skills kids at the pool as well as changed diapers, but I was clothed at the time, careful with my hands, and generally in the company of or within conversation distance of other adults. With those specific exceptions, I can't imagine why I'd ever be naked in shower with a student, let alone rough housing naked, etc.. May I add eeeeew.
* Re McQueary: It is clear to me he acted incorrectly, and this is not meant to excuse that, but I am suspecting he may have been molested himself, quite possibly by Sandusky. If one or both of these things is true, it would certainly explain why it might be hard for him to act correctly when confronted by something so triggering. Again, I'm not saying it's right, just that if this guess is correct, his behavior is much easier to understand.
* They cleared out some financial protests with arrests, including the one in new York there has been more suppression of journalists, which worries me. Anything can happen, and if there is no filming of it, the authorities can do whatever they like. They have also cleaned out the library, and deliberately used knives and saws to permanently ruin the winter weight tents for Winter camping. Remind me why destroying public property in an effort to prevent free speech is in the public interest, because it sure looks like the opposite to me. Among the arrested in New york is a councilmen who was injured in the police assault, and six reporters, arrested for covering the assault. They were surprised at 1Am and given about ten minutes to clear, despite a restraining order from the courts. Despite the protesters being unarmed and unresisting, they were dosed with pepper spray. police won the appeal this afternoon. Time will tell how the next round of the court battle goes.
* I did see the Gabby Giffords recording. Yes, the aphasia sounds alarming, but given where she was shot it's normal, and signs point to further improvement over time. I've seen it myself in other people with injuries to that part of the brain. Her doctor says she does understand speech just fine, and looking at her, I'm impressed as anything that's she's just generally doing this well after only ten months. I wish her well on her continuing recovery.
* Today was a nibbled to death by ducks sort of day, with multiple fails (which I won't get into), hardly any sleep and a barely functional body. On the upside, I now know a much better source for buckets of the sort I use for the fish, which is a very good thing. on the downside, the shop that fixes sewing machines is no longer there. I'll have to add finding another one to the December to do list.
Greenwick and I did pack a lot of stuff once the time wasting not accomplishing stuff part was over. Tomorrow, I'm doing things like waiting around for a dude to come sort things out at my apartment, going to the rheumatologist to talk about my immune system, and if things go well, I'll be moving the cats in the evening, but I'm not holding my breath. Much depends on me getting the afternoon stuff done properly.
Hector's been in full meltdown since I got home, and even though moving to a new place is stressful, I think he'd be way better off brain chemistry wise in the new place where the bulk of our stuff is, since he will then know we won't forget to pack him and leave him to starve out in the cold. This is a more reasonable fear than it sounds as he really did very nearly starve to death before we rescued him. Mache is wandering around looking deeply stressed out and worried in her stoic sort of way. She too associates moving with the sick, cold, nearly starving to death experience. LM is stressed enough to be picking fights with all comers. Luckily for the Butt, he isn't really bright enough to be properly stressed out by the goings on, and spends most of his life in a perpetual state of confusion. He's clearly picking up on the others being stressed out and is participating in the extra squabbling and generalized clinginess, but his emotional life and needs are pretty straightforward compared to the others. Is the kibble bowl full? Yes. Are there mests and toys? Yes. Is my clowder here? Yes. Are there pettins? Yes. It can't be that bad or scary then, right?
I'm thinking we'll try to tackle tanks Thursday, assuming the car is still running and Squirrel's emptied the back seat. We're going to try to score a truck to borrow Saturday for the moving of the stuff we packed today. I'm anticipating Greenwick and I will need another day of packing after that to finish up the kitchen, various closets, pictures, and loose bits and bobs. Squirrel says there will be movers for an hour Wednesday to take the large bits of furniture across, and I'm pretty sure I'll be ready for that by then. After that, it's cleaning. I'm already having lung trouble with the spores, dust, and con crud. I'm not looking forward to the actual cleaning fumes.
I slept for an hour on the mattress at the new place, and it's ridiculously comfortable compared to the floor pallet. I am really looking forward to switching for real. Even a few hours away from the spores is wonderful.
* I gave in and called the landlord, rather than waiting until we are moved out, as having a toilet with a 50-50 chance of working is not okay, the garbage disposal broke today, the sink keeps backing up, and the drain won't close on the tub. I could handle the tub thing and maybe one of the others, but all three together is moving the apartment towards unlivable.
I want out of here sooooo baaaaad.
* Bonus moving cool thing: We found a whole set of flatware I didn't know I owned. I've been wanting to buy a new set when there is money again, but free flatware is better, what with the being free. My guess is it's one of many random kitchenware things Skye's step monster gave us, because it turned out she didn't want them and they were too good to throw out, which he shoved in the back of a cabinet. It was a mix of opened and never used, so my bet is she started unpacking them and decided they were not as cute as she thought or didn't match her decor the way she imagined. They are perfectly good, and the sort of thing I would pick if I had more money. Nearly all of the other such gifts were useless, so this is a very welcome exception.
* The new phone service is going to be much cheaper than the current one, like half price. I'm going to be late on paying the old bill, I can tell already, as jtrom's money is still in electronic limbo, and the money I just used to pay the credit card bill, which is earmarked for electric once it clears there simply isn't enough. My ebay sold, though for less than it's worth, likely because I screwed up the listing in my exhaustion and I couldn't revise properly after bidding started. If I could have cancelled and relisted from scratch, I would have. Sigh. Still, they paid before I finished doing up the package so there is a little extra in my account if things go sideways on the electric bill..
I still need to put together the other listing, but given my pain and exhaustion, that sort of attention to detail is problematic.
