Oct. 8th, 2011 01:46 am* The Syrian government assassinated a Kurdish leader and eight other people today.
* Y'all know my position on going after politicians regardless of political party or gender. I think it's inappropriate and often misogynistic or body policing behavior and should have no place in political discourse. That goes for Chris Cristie and Anne Coulter as well as this new instance of Scott Brown making a tasteless joke at Elizabeth Warren's expense implying that she's ugly. Whether or not he personally wants to fuck has nothing to do with her qualifications for office, and I think he's an immature, misogynistic asshole. Yes, it was off the cuff. Yes, he's claiming it was just a joke, but jokes like that aren't funny; they are cruel, and intended to demean and belittle a woman. I'm not okay with that. I'm never okay with that. It speaks to the low quality of his character that these insults are his instinctive response when faced with a hard working intelligent and well educated woman.
I think it says something that his best line of attack on her campaign is not on the grounds of policy, but body policing and ageism. He's a wholly owned subsidiary of wall street interests, so of course, her kick ass defense of consumer rights and sane, modern financial regulation is a serious threat, but 80+% of the voters favour her financial policies over his so all he can thing of is nasty petty personal attacks. Fuck you, Mr. Brown.
* Republicans have disenfranchised 1.5 million people to "protect the purity" of the vote.
* Yesterday, the courts over ruled the Republican Secretary of state of Colorado who ordered the folks who send out ballots to deny them to the troops fighting overseas who are registered to vote.
* How counter intuitive is it that LAPD is behaving well when it comes to the occupy Wall street protests there?
* Today I got the new paperwork packet and spent an hour filling things out, reading legalize, and signing various key documents. As I wrote this, Squirrel was doing his signatures. We have a meeting next Wednesday, and I should be cleared to keep Squirrel after that. We're also getting a larger allowance, which vastly simplifies the housing search, since it quadruples options. The place I most want to live has no openings 'til November, but I now have a list of call back in Octobers and slightly too expensive from last month that I can work through, Monday if I'm not up for travel.
* Between the AS, phone calls, and time dependent errands. I got very little sleep, and after I got home, I gave in and broke out the good pain killers, as after a week of that level of pain, all i really wanted to do is curl up in a ball and cry. The nice thing about the good painkillers is my legs are now working properly.
I did get one good dream out of it, a very cool aliens among us sf thing starring Pam Greer, Ion Gruffydd, and a naked John Barroman doing gymnastic type things. No sex, alas, but aesthetically very, very pleasing.
* It's looking like deusabscondum is coming over for my birthday Two Tuesdays from now. If anyone else is likely to be up Bellingham way thenish, let me know.
* I just realized I had an eye appointment yesterday, I completely forgot about in the press of events. remember how they used to call to remind you the day before? No longer, and with all the other stuff going on, it slipped my mind entirely. Gah!

I hope Ms. Bose goes into research professionally when she grows up, and I wish all three young women fabulous futures in the sciences.
