Feb. 21st, 2011 11:27 pm* Gaddafi's son has threatened to shoot all the protesters in Libya. The air force has bombed their own cities and government forces are using machine guns and snipers in Tripoli. Border guards have been spotted abandoning their posts. A whole bunch of Ambassadors quit some of them seeking assylum in the countries to which they were posted or to which they have fled.. In the eastern part of the country, it's looking like the military may have joined the resistance.
* In Morocco and Algeria, things are heating up.
* In Iran, government forces waded in with teargas, guns, and batons.
* Protests have spread to China. I'm not surprised, given their internal situation.

* I know I'm on about all this protest stuff a lot, but it has the potential to overturn most of the way politics work inside and with the countries of the Middle east and if it really takes hold in China.... Seriously, I have no idea how global politics are going to look in a year, and that's fascinating. It could be back to status quo with different faces; it could be a whole new world for better or worse; it could be somewhere in between. I don't know. After all, I lived through both the fall of the Berlin Wall and Tienanmen Square. I've watched it go both ways in my lifetime.
* From Trin: They've been on an ethership doing dimensional travel. "World 3 - Dallas was devastated by a strange virus that may have created zombies, but the group were reassured that Gwen was working on a cure." I can totally see Gwen matter of factly mowing down zombies in between working for a cure. If her husband, Gianni were infected, she'd likely chain him in the garden for experimenting in the hopes of curing him. Gwen isn't remotely sane, but she's exactly the person you want during a zombie apocalypse."

* On top of outlawing unions, the Wisconsin Republicans are moving forward on a bill to make it harder to vote. Why do Wisconsin Republicans hate our freedoms so much?
* Mr. Klein's Ethics Hearing started today. He's the one misused his power as attorney General to subpeona medical records and hotel records so as to compile a list of names and addresses of people who had abortions.

"most of us do believe that intellect and romance should trump brute force and cynicism."
* If I had a TV show, I'd be tempted to cast James Frain and Mark Sheppard and have them both turn out not to be the villains, because that would really mess with peoples heads. Ooo! And Brad Dourif would not be playing a serial killer, because no one would expect that.
* And because it's been a pretty intense day, I'm linking in the Fergusen Doctor Who cold open because it makes me happy, dammnit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9P4SxtphJ4

Date: 2011-02-22 07:25 pm (UTC)On a lighter note: While I try to take a lot of the unrest seriously, it doesn't help that my brain geeks out and starts thinking that "Civil Disorder" is coming up in a lot of places around the world this year.

Date: 2011-02-22 08:00 pm (UTC)On a more serious note, it's sounding like the military is really conflicted over this, and I'm not at all surprised that there were pilots who'd rather defect than bomb civilians.
I wish them well.
