* A friend of mine started a basic Latin vocabulary web comic: http://greenwickpress.com/modernlatin/

* The other tea box came today. This one is from a new circle and is a lot less interesting than the usual box as a result. (It takes a little while for a circulating box to pick up enough variety). There is plenty to try, of course. There is always plenty to try. I do think My contributions are really improving things as I've included a bunch of non-caffeinated options (rooibos and herbal) along with the caffeinated blends. The box arrived with two decaff blends and no rooibos or herbals at all outside of the tea bag stuff I don't bother sorting or testing. (The only bagged teas I buy are medicinal. Folks occasionally give me bagged tea, which I generally find a use for, but to me, tea I drink for pleasure is going to be loose leaf and high end. I don't have many pleasures left me and a good pot of tea is one of the few left to me.)

* I nearly missed the tea box, as my hands and legs were really close to no functional when it came. It took so long for me to careen into the front room that the USPS lady (who always rings, waits, rings) was around the corner of the hedge. I called, "Wait, wait!" as I have summoned delivery folk back before that way. I thought she must be back in her truck, and thus out of hearing, so I admit to cursing. She came back though, and apologized. I told her it was my fault, not hers. By the time I'd sorted out Hector and the adrenaline wore off, it was too late to rest before the post office run to drop off the other box. I did get a bunch of errands done.

* I also discovered a ten I was not aware I had and therefore was outside the rather tight budget for the rest of the month. I know this was not the grown up thing to do, but I went to the fish store to see if I could replace the blue guppy. No blue guppies were in stock, but the platys were out of quarantine, so I picked up a few for adding genetic diversity. (I'm getting a number of non-able bodied fry due to inbreeding. This really is a good thing for my stock.) Next month, I'll try to budget for a blue guppy and likely another one or two platys. I can't check one of the new fish as it's tank night over there, but the ones in the office are puttering around happily enough. Last month's tetras and guppy are all still alive, which is pretty much a miracle as far as the tetras go. There are no crossbreed guppies yet, alas.

* Arm chair quarter backs are still claiming that if they had been in Tuscan with a gun the massacre wouldn't have happened. i continue to maintain that firing wildly into a panicked crowd would likely have increased the death toll. It turns out that there was someone armed there and he nearly shot the guy that disarmed the gunman, thinking he was the shooter. Yeah.

* They have added a Zodiac sign and adjusted the dates on the old signs. This means I am now no longer the world's worst Libra, but the world's least likely Virgo. I don't believe in astrology, but I do admit, that it amuses me how badly the signs the western zodiac assign me fit. http://abclocal.go.com/kfsn/story?section=news/entertainment&id=7896643

* For the record, I am against limiting free speech. I am for us deciding as a society that calling for the assassination of a political rival is a career ending statement the way saying something blatantly racist is. I think this is one of those things best solved by societal outrage. I am also in favour of treating that sort of the thing the same way we would from a law enforcement standpoint as we would if an ordinary citizen said it. I don'tr see how a double standard is doing any one any favours.

* Also for the record, I am in favour of reinstating the exspired legislation limitting extended clips and certain sorts of weapons. I don't think you need those things for hunting or home defense and if we can restrict ownership of plastic guns and Rocket launchers, we can restrict other things only really useful for mass murder.

* People may not know this, but I grew up in a house with guns. My dad was an NRA member and loved target shooting. He ran the rifle club at my school. (Yes, my school actually had an on campus rifle range and actual teenagers would go in there and target shoot with live ammunition in real rifles). I personally did not like shooting as even with the ear protectors, it was way too loud for me, and I really didn't like the way it kicked. Knowing my sensory wiring, this should not be a surprise to anyone. The man i lived with longest owned rifles, also for target shooting, though he didn't really use them. They lived in the back of a closet the nearly ten years we were together. I don't hate guns or gun owners in the abstract, but I am uncomfortable around guns on a deep physical level. On top of that, y'all know my personal history with dead lovers and guns. I don't like having them in the house. I don't ever plan to own one. I do support the right of other people who are non-felons and reasonably emotionally stable having them, much the way I support the right of people to smoke as long as they don't do it near me or in businesses where I want to go. I'm pretty much moderate here, but I do think there should be reasonable limits on types of guns and ammo people can have in their homes and I do think people ought to properly secure weapons, especially if there are young people in the house. I am strongly against firing randomly into crowds, even if there is already a gunman in the crowd.

* It turns out Mr. Hernandez is also gay, something not mentioned in any of the news stories I saw. Thanks to those pointing that out over on neo_prdegy's journal.

* On a not at all serious topic, I'm still digesting my Buffy/Angel watching. I think in retrospect, it's the throw away lines that haunt me. The obvious one was Spike's reference to not having had sex with Angel except for that once. The one currently picking at the edges of my mind in idle moments is Giles using as an example of how bored he was over the summer that he'd been watching Passions with Spike. Dude, just, dude! I keep imagining them in Spikes dusty hidey whole, Giles with popcorn or chips or something, bonding.... So wrong and so right all at once.

For the record, I'm still waiting to watch at least one Angel I missed, but I think i finally got all the Buffys.

I am now a Taurus. I guess I can be a workaholic now and continue to enjoy food?

If I ever have a farm, I will own a gun or two. Weapons are fine things, even as decorational pieces.

I admit to finding the displays of 18th century weapons in the museums where I grew up interesting. It's just I like them on the other side of the glass. Some of the decorative pistols are lovely, and I do find the history of rifling and rifle design in general fascinating. I do get why someone would display a heritage peice on a wall.
