Jan. 8th, 2011 05:01 am* Re Bill O'Reilly: I'm not clear how an ignorance of the 8th grade science curriculum constitutes a proof of the existence of God. It's seems to me more likely to be proof that the average 8th grade graduate in Washington State knows more about the solar system and tides than Bill O'Reilly. But maybe that's just me. After all, I only used to teach this stuff to 8th graders for money.
* Congratulations to the Republicans for preventing doctors from getting reimbursement for talking to patienis fundamentally against letting people decide what happens to their own bodies. After all, those decisions should not be left to individuals and their Doctors, but on a corporate level by insurance companies. Unless of course the person happens to be a female of reproductive age, when of course basic decisions about what happens to her body should be made by the government. Of course. After all Mr. Boehner's list of top priorities for the New Congress included both taking health care away from ordinary Americans and deregulating insurance as well as taking away a woman's right to choose. For some reason jobs and the economy didn't even make the list.
* The woman in charge of the education committee's first priority is to get rid of Student loans. she believes that government funding of education is unconstitutional. The man in charge of financial reform's election campaign took a huge amount of money from a hedge fund. The man in charge of Science and tech is the oldest member of Congress currently He also torpedoed math and science research bill last year. The man they plan to have run the finance committee thinks the federal reserve needs abolishing. They have put Michelle "I have a list of names" Backman on the Intelligence committee despite her complete disconnect from the reality based community. *facepalm*

* A conversation elsewhere, made me think of something from a dinner conversation from my early teens. We were in Paris, and my father and his friends were discussing history. One of my parents made reference to the Normans not really being french at the time of the 1066 invasion of England. Our host looked amused and asked my parents, "How many centuries does it take for invaders to become natives?" He pointed out they'd been in Normandy longer than we'd been in North America.
