Jan. 29th, 2012 01:49 am* So first, Newt threw a tantrum because they didn't have audience boos and cheers at a debate and demanded a noisy crowd or he wouldn't come. So they give in and let the crowd cheer and boo and he's throwing a tantrum because they vocally did not side with him in the last debate. This reminded me of an old political cartoon from when he was speaker of the house: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0QBWN3pPEkQ/SKBvjEd9NsI/AAAAAAAACA8/xEnYLipH6Ug/s320/newt-gingrich-baby.jpg
* While I was tracking that down, I thought I'd look up what was for me the most iconic image of him in a political cartoon: http://www.philnel.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/gingrinch.jpeg
I also found this modern one that uses his current policy positions: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YUNvZf7fgdQ/TuLgrQuKDsI/AAAAAAAAOy8/25eD-2M_FxE/s1600/gingrinch.jpg
I keep struggling to find words for just how horrible a human being he is so I can explain it to folks too young to remember the mid-90's in politics, and I just can't.

* I have all these things needing mending. I'm still mourning the loss of my Grandmother's sewing machine. There is no chance of me replacing it, as vintage metal singers are expensive. I want it back, damn it.
* The pathogen my immune system hasn't been putting much interest into fighting is ramping up. I am hoping this means my immune system will start paying attention to it. I was planning to retrench my room today. Instead, the cats and I lazed about reading Snuff, then watching the Wire. Sigh.
* In case y'all are curious, the middle school teacher plot in season four of the Wire is painfully accurate. Seriously, from that god awful in service right on out. I was actually yelling at the screen during the first day stuff because of all the things he was doing realistically wrong. As the story line progresses, I am pleased by each little thing he does realistically right. None of my schools were that tough, obviously, though I've dealt with drugs and fights more often than one would like. I suspect it helped that the guy who really taught me to teach started out as an orthodox Jewish teacher in 1960's Harlem, and not only survived, but thrived. I still had a shitty first year. Everyone has a shitty first year. (I'm counting my student teaching as part of the first year. I got my management skills together round about March my first year of paid work.) There is no way to teach teaching really. A good program gives you a tool kit to carry with you to your first gig. You have to learn what tool to use when in the field. If you are any good, you keep collecting tools and experimenting as you go.
