* The King of Jordon has called for the President of Syria to step down. That's a bold move, though in character, I think. This is a steop towards maybe something happening in Syria. Let's hope other moderate voices join his within the Arab League

* Gingrich is now second within the statistical error margin of Romney, despite his campaign being about book tour rather than winning. Cain had an embarrassing Rick Perrylike fail in an interview on TV which also displayed a Bachmannlike lack of knowledge of geography and current events. There is nothing wrong with an ordinary person not knowing about recent events in Libya, but my feeling is, if you are running for commander and chief, not knowing about our military intervention there is...just wow. Part of the job of the President as commander in chief is to make quick foreign policy decisions in a crisis. I don't expect people to know everything about every country on the planet. I do think a president and thus a presidential candidate needs to have enough interest in what's going on in the world to key things like which side of the Libyan uprising we were on.

I keep saying I like my President to be intelligent, well educated, and good at research and evaluation of sources. I want a president who can read the policy briefs and with enough curiosity to keep track of important events like the European financial crisis and who's at war with whom in the middle east. Look at W and you can see what having someone unable to fulfill these minimum requirements can make of a country. Some of the folks running for the Republican slot this year make W look like an intellectual and a deep thinker by comparison. That scares me.

* They arrested and cleared financial protesters in 6 cities over the weekend, including 50 arrests in Portland last night. Among those cities was Oakland. Yes, again. This time they didn't put any Iraq war veterans in the hospital. One of the Oakland mayor's advisers resigned over the continued harassment of protesters. In North Carolina, they stopped a reporter from filming and cuffed her, ignoring press credentials.

* They are holding recall Scott Walker parties in Wisconsin that culminate in after midnight petition signings.

* As it turns out, unlike USPS, the UPS delivery person is not bright enough to drop packages at the complex office if folks aren't home. This should really be no surprise as the UPs delivery person is not bright enough to read and comprehend our "Please ring bell" sign on the old apartment despite them all being one syllable words. I must decide before dawn if I and the cats are moving over there for the day. (I'm leaning towards me, but not the cats just yet.) If only I had an extra person to post over there all day everything would be suddenly quite simple because I've got middle of the day errands and Greenwick and I are meant to be packing the office and what's left of the living room tomorrow. *head desk*

I did not do as much as I meant to today either. It was a one stupid thing after another sort of day. The cats really did not want me to get up at all and there was a lot of squabbling over spots on my floor pallet because everyone wanted to sleep on my torso except LM. By the time I was functional enough to move about, I discovered my clothes weren't yet dry. Then there was important phone calling, that took way longer than it needed to for a variety of time wasting and annoying reasons. I did get over there in time to start sorting out my room. There are a whole bunch of things I can't do until the bed frame goes across, but I think I know where everything is going in the new room.
