Sep. 14th, 2011 04:14 am* Despite Michelle Bachmann's claims, the HPV vaccine does not cause intellectual challenges in children. I wish she'd stop making random things up to support her points.
* Similarly, Ron Paul lied about the Us embassy in Baghdad. his numbers on the cost seem to be made up and he dramatically exaggerated the size.
* The Republican crowd cheered and shouted in favour of letting everyone who can't afford insurance die unnecessarily.
* I did not watch the whole Tea party debate, but the bits I did watch made me want to stab my TV.
* As it turns out, those overseas contractors are about twice as expensive as using government employees and our own military. So, to sum up: privatized contractors is twice as expensive; mercenaries are prone to rape, murder, and abuse of power; and civilian contractors do things like wire electricity so that taking a shower periodically electrocutes soldiers.
* Republican Senators filibustered disaster relief for hurricane Irene last night, but enough found their consciences today to let the democrats pass it anyway. 38 still voted against it. After all, disaster relief helps ordinary people and small businesses rather than billionaires and mufti-national corporations, so they are against it.
* I said I wasn't expecting to link anything 9-11 related expect rm's post, but this one says some important things, so I'm linking it: http://box-in-the-box.livejournal.com/527857.html
* Seanan MacGuire talks about the latest scandal where YA authors were asked to turn gay characters straight: http://seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com/388438.html
"I have plenty of queer adventures. What I want is gay men doing laundry, lesbians chasing werewolves, and transgender superheroes fighting to save Metro City. What I want is books where the story matters more than the sexual orientation of the characters it contains."
Yes! This is what I'm on about!
* Signal boost: http://il-volpe.livejournal.com/23678.html
* Amusing line from The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian: "Gay people could do anything. They were like Swiss Army knives!"
* I started the depressing process of calling landlords today. I've got two promising leads. it would be ten times easier if I knew whether I am going to be living alone or if they will let me keep Squirrel, since it effects the target rent amount and number of bedrooms. Still, I plan to do another round of phone calls tomorrow.
I can't do anything as final as applying for an apartment until I talk to people I can't talk to until next Tuesday, so there's a lot of hurry up and wait going on here. When things are more fixed, I will likely need help. Details of that will be released when we get there.
* We weren't the only ones unimpressed by the True Blood finale (Spoilers ahoy!): http://www.fangsforthefantasy.com/2011/09/true-blood-and-when-i-die.html
* And a comic: http://xkcd-rss.livejournal.com/238379.html
* The Clutch:
