* What have I been reading? A Sharpe, a Felix Castor, and Diary, which I only just started. Hence my complete lack of stuff to say about my reading. I've also started a rewatch of B5. The last time was with Skye in the most acute part of grieving my soldier. I'm only in season one, which I watched the first time in syndication some time after I watched season two in real time, so I don't have a lot of emotional resonance or layered sense memory invested in it. I expect the real ugly bit for me will be much later on. Right now I'm simply marveling at how well it was crafted the first time. (Yes, the CGI and some effects now look primitive, but the acting; design of characters, world, ans etc; and writing elements like deep foreshadowing still hold up beautifully.)

* As it turned out, gas for the trip was nearly as expensive as the car. I had been hoping there would be enough to buy my friend's books this month, but alas, I think not. I need to see how a few more things work out.

* On the upside, I had super cheap fresh fruit and veggies from the farmer's market today. I finally gave in and got one of though cantaloupe, honeydew hybrids. I am now wondering where this fruit has been all my life.

* What with trip related exhaustion and exposure to a few not entirely safe food while traveling, and a first thing in the morning doctor's appointment and hector eating my sleep, I'm opting out of swimming this week also, I think. Best to let my system get its legs under it again. At least this way, finding swim membership money is now next month's problem.

* Poor Hector is having nightmares what with all the disruption and is also having hairballs from over grooming. Still, two years ago, he'd have been way more messed up from there being a visitor and then me being away over night, so I'm seeing progress even if he's still not at optimal cope level.

* I know <i.mister popper's="Popper's" penguins</i="penguins</i"> is a children's movie, but every time i hear the commercial carol, "More Poppers!" The image in my head has nothing to do with children or penguins. *facepalm*

* I'm keeping the cats inside, as I suspect there are rabid raccoons in our area, which sucks for them, as it would be good weather for supervised rambles.

* There was a bunch of political news, including a Republican debate, but very little of it was interesting, honestly. The exception is Wisconsin is joining Maine on rolling back child labour laws, and Maine is joining Wisconsin in making it harder for the poor, the young, and the old to vote. In Maine the "crisis" that justifies this is two people committed voter fraud. Only two in the whole state. In Wisconsin, the union stripping bill was declared illegal, so the republicans are likely going to ram through rules changes so they can pass their anti-labour laws legally.

* The other bit of interesting political news is the increasingly bizarre behavior of the Tennessee legislature. I give you Rachel Maddow discussing it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ns/msnbc_tv-rachel_maddow_show/#43388331
