gwydion* The trip: They said I'd get a compact or economy. The guy ahead of me got one. Other reasonable sized vehicles were in the lot. They gave me a ridiculously big behemoth, and if I wanted a car I must take it. I took it. There was traffic, but it was all moving, so the drive down was completely reasonable, and the mapquest was actually accurate for once. I had only met my hostess briefly during the whole surgery thing last year, but she turned out to be both an excellent Hostess and good company. Lalena is clearly keeping an aging portrait in her attic and we fell into our old dynamic pretty naturally with the only major change being significantly less chance of property damage. Mellontatauta, and joyinthedark joined us for late lunch. there was more hanging out and talking. It was so weird to meet someone (Liz) who knew so many people I used to know and is still in touch with several, when I have no joint history with her. I wish I had met Liz sooner, as I really liked her. (Her husband was pleasant, but quiet, so it was harder to get a feel for him). We went to dinner at Golden beetle, which was expensive, but tasty. If you go, get the spicy donuts. We went to breakfast at a hippy dinner with Russ, then he took us to the Darwin playground and to a tasty bakery where caffeine was had by all.
It was cool beyond words to see Lalena again.
* I neglected to ask how to find the freeway from where we had parked my car. I ended up heading downtown and looking for streets I knew as freeway entrances. I found a south I-5 easily, but I needed north, so I traded a dollar to a homeless guy for directions out. It was slow through Seattle, but sped up about when the radio station I found kicked back on, and it was a clean ride north except for the speed trap, which everyone slowed down for two curves in advance. Hector's upset I was gone, but better than I expected. I got back early enough to do reading and pettins before Game of Thrones.
* I had not heard the news about the terrible things that have happened to my forth freshman roommate recently. I am thinking I should try to track her down online. I had no small children in tow, but certainly, I've buried men too.
