gwydion* It looks like John Edwards may be indited over misuse of campaign funds to cover up his affair. It's not something that's been tried before, being a novel application of the campaign financing law. It's not clear if he'll negotiate a penalty to fight it in court. There's a strong legal case for it not being technically illegal, but he's wildly unpopular in North Carolina, where it'd be tried, so it could get messy if it's not thrown out by the judge. Will he throw the dice and risk his law license or plead guilty and negotiate?
* In Wisconsin, they have caught yet another right wing domestic terrorist planning to kill people at Planned Parenthood. Luckily, he was incompetent and shot his gun off in his hotel room before he could commit the mass murder he told police he was planning to do this morning. Charming.
* Serbia finally arrested General Ratko Mladic, a war criminal responsible for massacring 8000 unarmed people. He was not bothering to hide and appearing openly at public events. Because the want in to the EU, they decided to arrest him after all. My contempt is huge.
* A vote to accelerated draw down on the wars failed by 11 votes in the house.
* In Libya, government troops are engaging in systematic rape, likely as a matter of policy.
* I just got my first poll for the Fall election.
* The Tuscon shooter has been found unable to stand trial due to mental illness. I'm not surprised at all. They will be reevaluating in Fall.
* Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper had been found legally insane in state court, but was found guilty in federal court. It's been something like nine years.
* I dreamed il_volpe and I had joined a Ph.d program and were roommates in the dorm. They had all these weird 1950 style rules, like a 10 o'clock curfew, morning roll call with attendance sheets, and signing in and out at night. I said i was an adult and if i wanted to be studying or writing after 10 o'clock, I would. They were all rules were rules. we ended up quitting. Then it was a long series of coyote dreams. The exercise program is wearing me the fuck out.
