* John Ensign's finally resigning under the weight of all those ethics investigations. This is unlikely to change the balance of parties in the senate, as the Nevada Governor is also Republican, in the immediate term. This will hurt democratic chances to take the seat next time around, and makes it more likely that Sharon "Latinos look Asian" Engle will end up in the House. *sigh*

* They examine my hand incision tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

* Am I the only one who thinks of lemurs when I see pictures of the Olsen twins?

* 61% of those in the top tax bracket think they should pay more taxes. O.o Of course a vast majority of the rest of us think that too. Despite these poll results, Republicans are still demanding we further cut the tax rate of the trillionaires at the expense of the elderly.

* They have added federal hate Crimes charges to the list for the White Supremacist who made a very serious attempt at blowing up the Spokane MLK Day Parade.

* I know paying for votes with money, goods, or services is illegal. I am surprised to find out the same is not the case with those political petitions, but in Wisconsin, Republicans have been taped giving people shots in exchange for signing recall petitions. They are also lying about what there petitions are for.

I urge everyone to do what I do when signing petitions, which is thoroughly read all the wording on the petition, in case of misleading language in the written or verbal descriptions of what one is signing.

* Is it just me, or was tonight's Bones a really elaborate mock of Psychand/or Burn Notice?

* Round up of tributes to Lis Sladen: http://box-in-the-box.livejournal.com/503329.html

I couldn't bear to check out the children's tribute.

I do think the posting about how she redefined the companion role in doctor Who, was pretty telling in a variety of ways. The most iconic image I have of the Sarah Jane character in my mind is from the '70's when the 4th doctor was being particularly inhuman and ignoring the need for compassion in his zeal for solving a problem, and she called him up short, reminding him that lives matter, that people matter, calling him on his bullshit. You can see that echo all the way forward through to the modern series, the spirit of Sarah Jane informing the character design of companion after companion.

I agree with box, that it would likely be helpful to young fans if the franchise do something in response. also, damn you box for making me weep for Mr. Hooper again.

* Wow, O'Reilly, Anne Coulter, and even Sen. Michele "first graders should just get jobs if they are hungry to learn self reliance" and Bachman have all come out saying that Obama was born in Hawaii. Mr. Trump, if you are making those folks look reasonable by comparison to you, that's a real problem.

* This pretty much captures why I miss Russel T. Davies: http://neo-prodigy.livejournal.com/933646.html

Tonight's Bones actually looked to me like they are floating a series to see how people respond, the same way they had a show with the new Criminal Minds spin off interacting with the old team about 6 months ahead and then adjusted that cast. Or the way Dana Delaney started showing up as a major guest star investigator on several of the procedural shows before they gave her Body of Proof.

Have you seen the reboot-ish stuff they've done with Law and Order: LA. I'm sad about the character they got rid of because I like the actor, but it might feel more gritty to you, now. Though, really, I think part of the point was always 'here we get to tell stories we either couldn't tell in New York or which would go very differently in NYC.' There is a surface polish to a lot of LA, though which I think is part of what you're reacting to, but half the point is that it really is just as gritty underneath, we just hide it better in some areas. (That said, East Pasadena is not a city. It's a census designated area which means that it's unincorporated county which would correspond to a city but is not actually incorporated, much like Altadena. There is no East Pasadena City Hall. There is no East Pasadena Police Department. Meh.)
