* I need more information to speak intelligently about the attempted military coup in Turkey. I have seen the footage out of Istanbul of civilian crowds thwarting troop movements and I've seen the reports of police arresting some soldiers, but Turkey's a large country and I'm not seeing much in the way of coverage of what else is going on besides random conflicting statements from both sides, and unsubstantiated but plausible stuff about violent military attacks on Ankara. The details that are emerging would... well make a great movie but it's also frankly terrifying given the regional and global implications. Anyway, I'm not expressing opinions as to the larger meaning of things until I have way more information and we know wtf is happening outside Istanbul.

In any case, I hope the casualties are low and that things do not get worse for people there.

* Seriously, register now and vote in November. Vote not just for Hilary, but for Congress, state, and local officials. This is the sort of thing they will be trying to enact on every level.

* An internet friend was doing a book reorganization and weeding, and had some things she correctly believed I would very much want. We've been mostly barred from using the Narnia door due to construction and construction related issues. The Narnia door is where packages are delivered. Last night, when Squirrel removed the barricade of trash he couldn't take out until the hallway was sorted to go to work, he discovered the book box. I set it on the livingroom table until I was ready for meds time, at which time I opened it and Tavy lost his ever loving mind. She has a cat, you see, and from his reaction, I think he believed a new cat was in the box. There followed an increasingly violent conflict involving him trying to attack me every time I reached for books in between him persistently trying to get past me to poke at LM. I was able to distract him for about half an hour with crinkly balls of stranger cat scented balls of packing paper, but this was not enough, not nearly enough. The issue of finding one last perfect piece of shelving has suddenly become rather urgent. I did manage to rearrange two of the larger book cases to take most of it, but I've got a big stack of anthologies piled on my desk I need to find at least a temporary home for and I now have a bunch of orphaned sections mixed in with other sections which is calculated to make me a little crazy. (I know the books jammed into the other rooms I control are loose sorted, but the books out here are organized and having them not put away properly bugs me the way not starting at the beginning of a book or TV series does. It saps spoons slowly, though not as badly as, say, forcing a diurnal sleep cycle does, and some part of my brain is quietly and constantly trying to figure out how to put it right until it is).

I am really excited about the Duc D'Orleans Biography, a full set of Coward plays and a book of his verse, and I now have a lot of the first half of Discworld, though not the Aching or Lipwig era ones. I wish I could find my french revolution stuff, but I suspect I lent it to Mitch twoish decades ago and never got it back. I know that's why most of my early medieval stuff is missing.

* "Rise" came from the library yesterday, and it keeps being a struggle to tear myself away for RL obligations. I was legitimately in tears multiple times for the Browncoats one, which is as far as I got before I had to go get ready for MrBumblepants. I had read the first two stories before, but it is incredibly useful to have "Countdown" with it's dates right in front so I can place later stories in the time line. Damn can Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire write. I may have to save up for a copy of this, and y'all know how tight both my budget and my shelf space are.

I should mention that the stories so far are very inclusive: naturally, excellently inclusive. I wish more people would write that way.

I like that term....the Narnia door. I loved those books as a kid and still do.

I picked it because it's the door at the back of the apartment leading into cat terrifying corridors. Mache, hector, and LM had never lived anywhere with an interior door leading into territory that wasn't ours. We didn't much use that door except to get mail or take out trash and they'd lived hear over a week before, to their horror, I opened what they thought was a wall opening into some strange unimagined country. Door in the back to a strange alternative world sounded pretty Narnia to me and it stuck. :)
