* Tavy Update: He's not attacked me in my sleep in weeks and is doing fairly well with me on soft paws. (I get the occasional accidental clawing where he leaps to high chasing string or the like, but I don't count obvious accidents). He's not generalized this to Squirrel, alas and the poor man is getting mauled on the regular. With me, he comes to bed for cuddle naps and head scritches, for Squirrel, he comes to start trouble with him and LM. him getting much worse behaved with squirrel coincides loosely with my cracking down on extreme cat harassment in the rooms I control in the apartment. (I'm dominant in my bedroom, my bathroom, and the common areas, but I don't go into Squirrel's room and bathroom if I can at all help it, and am clowder dominant generally). I've been enforcing no conflict zones, right to eat, and no cornering cats where they can't escape, which are the rules LM learned to protect Hector and now is experiencing from the other end. These are more subtle rules and not easily piggy backed on instinct, so it's going to be a slow project. I do see progress and it's really helping LM's stress level, but my theory is he is going ape shit in Squirrel's room in response. Squirrel's mostly working on trying to get him to generalize soft paws and no biting at this point, as he should be at this stage, and just generally working on bonding.
This would be so much easier if he had another kitten his age to play with, but I really can see him settling into routines that work better in the configuration we have.
