* Look, I know all the reasons a four four supreme court split sucks, but you know what? I'll take a split that puts things off for a few years over a clear loss that can fuck up people's rights for a generation or more. This week the four four split saved Public Sector Unions. I'm considering that a win. Yes, I'd like to see the senate confirm a ninth justice, but things could easily be much worse than they are right now.

* I was so excited because it looked like the asparagus starts had taken. While I was foraging there was an accident on the patio and I think half of them may be dead and I'm not sanguine about the others. We lost a lot of precious potting soil too. There's so little of it left and I need to ration it. It's not as grievous as the plants all being uprooted, but it adds to the distress.
