Ah, Cats!

Tavy made his first epic mess in our home. I had been spoiled for Black sails *shakes fist at the Internet* so broke with custom and watched it ahead of airing. I was at the climatic bit, and heard what sounded like Squirrel bumbling around in the kitchen. I picked up the remote to pause so as to protect him from spoilers. (I finally infected him, so he's been binge watching them, but last I talked to him he was at 3.2, so odds are he's round about 5 or 6 now, and I didn't want to disgruntle him the way I am disgruntled). At this perfect moment, there was a massive, multi-part glass breaking crash, and rather than human sounds of consternation the sound of small animal high tailing it out of there.

It was impressive. Not as impressive as that time Hector flooded three floors of the apartment complex we were living in then so a river was pouring out of the garage, but it was quite a quality of mess for a cat so small and so recently arrived. I have no idea what he thought he was doing. There is nothing a cat would want there and it was an area even Hector left alone. He knocked over a bunch of things and managed to drop a bunch of cups, some random sundries, and three glass bottles on the floor. Miraculously, only one thing broke. Unfortunately, it was the massive unopened red wine vinegar container I'd bought at the beginning of the month as we were down to dregs. Doh! It was quite the task cleaning up. I have no way of telling if he was hurt, as he's lightening fast and he's hiding the place hector liked to go when there were loud, terrifying ogre like workmen in the apartment instead of going back to the hiding spot he'd been using most of the evening that hector favoured lesser scary intrusions, where I could get a decent look at him. I'm guessing he could not have run that fast if he were really injured, so let us hope he jumped over the mess on making his escape.

For the record, he has been going out of my room into the kitchen and my bathroom off an on, I'd catch the movements out of the corner of my eye and I can often track him by small sounds. I'll need to go back to always checking on suspicious things in the kitchen as I used to do with Hector. He'd likely not have managed the damage if I hadn't had my lungs running and been glued to the TV, as I'd have noticed the difference, but the motor masks things, I had the wrong eye line, and i didn't want to look away. I've moved things back on that section and I will cross my fingers vinegargedden has taught his a modicum of caution with that particular area.

My neighbors across the street had a Siamese cat that passed away at 19, and they got a new one from the shelter. I guess somehow she got into some mischief involving the bathroom sink, and it ended up flooding their entire first floor while they had gone somewhere, with many hundreds of dollars in damage. These days they keep that bathroom door ( and all the doors lol to the bathrooms) closed.

In our case, he opened the emergency release valve on the water heater. We had to get a toddler proofing thing from the hardware store. Here the water heater is in the secure closet, so he can't do that at least.

Oops! Well, we gotta love our furry companions even when they do things that cause damage LOL :P

Meep! Sorry about the vinegar. Have you been able to get a decent look at him since?

I can't see his paws, but he's moving fine. I think he knocked them off, then jumped over to freedom.
