Feb. 22nd, 2011 11:55 am* Clearly I've been reading too much superhero comic criticism, because it combined with recent rm postings to give me this dream: Batman had a new botfriend, another superhero, a little younger. There was all this critical praise for the storyline, for the bold and positive portrayal of a same sex relationship. Then came a supervillaness dressed in a body suit. She was silent, but phrases would apear written on her torso in place of her dialog. She killed the boyfriend and knocked out batman, leaving behind explosives, so when another superhero came to check, the whole apartment blew. There was fan fury and grief, much as there was when Ianto died. Then it turned out the supervillainess was some random woman who had been kidnapped off the street and literally silenced by the Joker who had removed her tongue and was controlling her remotely through the bodysuit. She literally had no agency and no voice in events. There was all this critical argument over whether this was a statement about the mistreatment of women, or an endorsement of female dissent within fandom....
My brain: trunk of weird curiousity in the attic or compost heap?
* Wicked Gentlemen was delightful. Homoerotic fantasy Victorian adventure/romance that hadn't forgotten a lot of the fucked up inequalities in Victorian society. In my head, I gave Belimai Garrick's voice, even though he was somewhere between Brams and Cole in character.
* Insomnia is kicking my ass. It's been days since I could get sufficient sleep all at once. Too much pain. Apologies if I stop making sense.
* Bwahahaha! http://community.livejournal.com/metaquotes/7505743.html?style=mine

* neo_prodigy on the war on women: http://neo-prodigy.livejournal.com/912120.html
* OMG! I won a copy of Seanan Mcguire's Late Eclipses! I'm so excited!
* And as of this minute, I'm finally caught up.
