* Hector update: he's still drinking water and tuna water and getting all the cuddles. I've worked out with someone to trade money to put him to sleep for BPALs if he's still alive tomorrow. I would much rather he died here with me and familiar smells and furniture, but he last ate solid food Thursday (technically wee hours Friday), so it may have to be done. I would of course rather he not be dying at all, but that's not one of the choices. He's been with me since the millennium or thereabouts, longer than my two longest relationships with men combined. I love him more than breathing, really.

Does your vet charge for having him put to sleep? (I ask because my vet down here actually doesn't charge for that, they sort of figure, you've given them money for taking care of the animal up until now and it's hard enough to lose a pet without being charged for it.)

Yes. They change. I did the phoning around for Mache two years ago. SPCA is expensive, but cheaper than my vet.
