* I realize that this is entirely a personal gut reaction, but Ted Cruz creeps me out on a physical, lizard brain level. Remember the insect alien in an Egger suit from MIBS? Every time I see Ted Cruz smiling with those dead, dead eyes I think of some sociopathic alien wearing a rubber human mask, I think of Ed Geins and his dead skin masks, and I shudder. Again, It's nothing substantive though I have huge list of substantive complaints that creep me the fuck out, like his call to close all Mosques, all Muslim owned businesses and any business that Muslim citizens frequent. *shudder* Yes, Donald Trump is the obvious evil, but I do not see how Ted Cruz is any better and looking at him, I can believe he would do anything at all without a qualm for personal power.

* Today was meant to be a rest day with Must do's around the house +a library drop trip. But Hector and an autodialer made the sleep part not work out. I did get the most important thing done, the book drop, and some small stuff, but a bureaucracy packet arrived and I started on that. I should have done the next two important things on the list too, but I made cookies instead. I know, not a good grown up. Those were the best of these cookies I'd made in literally years. I think I finally figured out how to proportion it right to compensate for how low and wet it is here.

* Supernatural, Oh Brother, Where Are Thou? : 1. I think it is telling that Dean can't imagine drama between siblings without daddy issues in the mix. 2. Where the fuck is Adam? no really. He's meant to be in the cage. So where is he? Given the shit continuity on this show I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but the Season five finale was a big deal and the end of the five year arc that mattered. you'd think if they were going to go reference that finale this heavily they might have rewatched it or something?

* Penny Dreadful Season 2 (Spoilers):

I admit, I spent all of season one and half of season two wondering why Dorian Gray was even in there until it became clear he was going to me a season three villain. Why is this an issue? Because I am really angry about Sembene and Angelique. They put all this time and effort across two seasons on a character who isn't relevant to the plot at all except tangentially until Lily reveals who she really is, but they put no effort at all into fleshing out Sembene or giving him an arc. They barely let him speak in season one and while he actually has lines and a wee bit of characterization in season two, he exists throughout to serve the white characters, and his death serves to create white man pain instead of being about his own arc, which he lacks. Yes, it's cool the actor is playing the character with a redemption arc in mind, but the character is never foreground and that story is never the focus. It feels tacked on, for all the actor tries to convey what he can with the smidgeon he is given. Sembene's stated reason for sacrificing himself is that he believes the white man's life is more important/valuable than his own. Eeeeeeew!

And then, so as to give Dorian Gray something to do the first half of season while we wait for Lily to develop to the point she shows her true face, we get the incredibly transphobic story of Angelique, who is brushed to the side and murdered as soon as a cis woman shows up. I have no words for how angry I am really.

Look, I love this show's aesthetic, several of the characters, the complexity of the ethical issues, and the depth of the philosophical issues they are playing with. There is so much going on here that speaks to the big questions of what makes one human and what is a monster, and if it's possible to come back from doing terrible things. This show does a lot of things right, it really does, but the things it does wrong are infuriating.
