gwydion* Russia apparently sent four missiles into Iran by accident. Add that to their bombers in turkey's air space and the whole bombing moderates instead of IS as a matter of policy and the whole thing is already going to pieces. Oh, and it's likely Russia and Iran will soon by invading in force.
* Kevin McCarthy has withdrawn his name as Speaker of the House. Congressional Republicans are postponing the election.
* It occurs to me I should explain some things, especially given the proportion of you who are not from the US or are understandably not that into the process part of how are government works. Speaker of the House is the third in line for the Presidency, and by most measures the second most powerful person in the US government, with a great deal of say as to what actually happens in the house of Representatives, and a crucial role in US Government finances (Budget, debt ceiling, etc..). John Boehner is objectively pretty bad at it for a host of reasons we've discussed in the past, but is part of the sane wing of the Republican Party, so grasps things like completely crashing the U S economy and permanently destroying our National credit for no good reason is a bad idea.
So what happened was, he completely understandably looked at the next eighteen months of thankless tasks and teeth pulling and realized he could just quit. Stop doing it! So he announced he was resigning. The next guy in line makes George W. look like an incredibly eloquent genius by comparison, embarrasses the shit out of the party, and brags about wasting 4 billion dollars to maliciously tank a presidential candidate for partisan reasons by perverting the special committee process, then claiming he was totally lying aboout that in an unconvincing way. The extreme right let's burn the country to the ground in the name of God and Grover Norquist wing of the party sensed blood in the water and forty of them defected. The wildly incompetent Kevin McCarthy could only afford 28 defections and still win, so he just bowed out. Boehner completely understandably delayed the vote for a new speaker. now people are scrambling to pressure Paul Ryan into doing it, but he doesn't want it right now as it will tank his long term ambitions to spend the next 18 months pissing everyone in the part off doing thankless tooth pulling to keep the government solvent, so is resisting. People are very likely scrambling like wild behind the scenes to find someone creditable and likely to actually do the job.
I can not tell you what the fuck is about to happen. I'm pretty sure anyone who tells you they do is just guessing. I get that there is a temptation to schadenfreude, but seriously folks, this is scary as fuck and a perfect example of why Republicans right now are too dangerous to be put in charge of anything. If the burn it all down wing takes over... *shudder* If someone not competent to do the job takes over *shudder* You see the problem.

It turned out to be a combination of one of his bad mental illness days and a particularly brutal hairball situation caused by him trying to take up self grooming again after an eight month hiatus followed by my room mate using his slow cooker. I got hardly any sleep, but Hector is eating, drinking, and sleeping again as of 8PM Thursday.
