RIP Chris Gillen

I don't know if there are still any Johnnies reading this, so anything I could say about Chris Gillen likely would means nothing to the rest of you. Suffice to say, a member of my original friend group at my first college has died. Natural causes, which makes sense, given who and how. I haven't heard from him in something like decade. He migrated to facebook and I simply won't, and so we fell out of touch again. He was funny and infuriating and a mess, but an interesting mess. For those of you I've told the wild immigrant story involving assassins and name changes and Ellis Island? That was his grandfather. Most of the other stories I could tell are too "You had to be there," or too Johnnie, or you would have to know the people sorts of things. The Drakkar Noir story is not the sort of thing you tell about the dead.

Still, I am sad he's not out there somewhere being snarky and witty and difficult.
