* Al Shabab has murdered at least 147 people at the only public college in Northern Kenya. Four terrorists were killed. 587 people escaped.

* I meant to do something for Trans day of Visibility, but my body's been extra difficult the last two weeks or so, so it didn't happen. I am still not in any shape for eloquence, so I will just say: Yes, I am here. I am a transitioned androgyne (Ze,Zir,zim). Yes, that really is a thing, and no, it's not a phase. I was aware of my gender difference from about the age of three, long before I had a word for it and picked the androgyne label as the closest fit in my teens at some point in the mid 80's.

I'll also add that I do answer questions and I generally don't mind talking about it, though obviously questions about my personal equipment are only for friends. The gatekeeper system is an unnecessary hassle for all of us, in my opinion, but it's extra scary for non-binary folks, but it is possible to navigate it without lying and on the cheap if you live in the Pacific Northwest. If you are trans of any stripe and local to Western Washington, looking for advice on getting through the system with a minimum of misery and expense, feel free to drop me a line. I feel like the earlier generations went through so much and fought so hard and were there with advice for those who came after and that debt ought to be paid forward. For non-binary folk coming up, there isn't nearly as much appropriate advice, and those of us who've been through it mostly had to do a lot of the figuring out who to go to and what to do ourselves when the binary folk advice wasn't helpful or where a resource was excellent for one sort of trans person, but hostile or out right closed to other sorts. Trans world still often runs by word of mouth and if there is anything I can do to make it easier for the folks coming after me, I'm happy to do it or point you towards resources that can help.

* Fish Update: I started a splinter colony for the guppies in the long 20 as I am down to very few corys because of all the drama this year. Let's hope some of the corys are female and pregnant as there is no way to afford a restock for the foreseeable future. Anyway, the guppies've been in there most of a week and seem happy enough.

We’ve had a bit of fry die off in the splinter colony, but that was expected as there is half the space and less vegetation. There are still plenty of mixed sized fry and a couple of the oldest will likely mature soon, judging by size. I think the colony will be fine, though I’d feel better if I could add a bit of genetic diversity.

The Pleco is doing well despite the smaller digs. Both whiptails seem to have survived the drama, and the beta I moved seems happier out here where there is a bit more stimulation.

* I am not a sitcom person and it takes a lot to win me over. I gave in and tried Brooklyn 99, and I have been completely won over despite the annoying straight white man baby that is seemingly obligatory in the genre these days. I love the Captain, Terry, and Rosa best, but is surprisingly good at giving all of the main cast except Hitchcock and Scully some depth. I love that they have actual competent characters and solve crimes instead of everyone just being wacky, which is my issue with a lot of sitcoms. I love that I can already see character arcs and growth and I'm still just working my way through season one. The tendency of sitcoms to reset at the beginning of each episode irritates and creeps me out. I love that there is actual continuity. (Ex: One episode, they make the Fairytale Castle. In another it is in the background of a scene at Terry's House). It's not perfect, but this is the most fun I've had with a sitcom in ages. Now to figure out what day, time, and channel it is on so I can maybe start taping it. Thanks to all of you who recommended it without pushing to hard and to the folks posting intriguing gifsets that helped real me in.
