Jan. 22nd, 2015 02:46 am* We are negotiating reopening our embassy in Cuba and Cuba opening an embassy in the US.
* There has been yet another burst oil pipeline, poisoning the Yellowstone and the water supply for a local town. This is the second spill in the Yellowstone in recent years.
* The House Republicans were planning to celebrate the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade by passing a federal Abortion Ban as part of their ongoing war against women. Apparently the GOP Women in the house revolted, so they are going to do some less flagrant fuck you to women instead.
* There will be no Federal Civil rights charges in the police murder in Ferguson.

* Cat Food money finally cleared Tuesday (With less than one big can of the hated Mixed Grill left). All is right with the cats now.
* And I thought the TV show was problematic. *shudder* Trigger Warning for discussions of child abuse, IPV, and rape. "Fangs For The Fantasy: Outlander (Outlander #1) by Diana Gabaldon:" http://www.fangsforthefantasy.com/2015/01/outlander-outlander-1-by-diana-gabaldon.html

* I'm not really a Disney Person. I never identified with Disney Princesses. I like some of their movies, but there are lots of them I haven't seen or haven't liked. I am too aware of the problematic. (It does make me sad I will never get to see the Haunted Mansion and the Pirates ride, but it's not the end of the world). However, the Disney Princesses and Prince fan art that endlessly reimagines and repurposes the characters that I see on Tumblr make me incredibly happy. All these people transforming the Disney characters into guises that speak to them, the endless beauty and creativity and boundless joy of it really speak to me in a way the movies never can.

To me, things like this are the real magic, the taking of often oppressive imagery that people grew up with and turning it into something empowering.
