* I really find the Eric Garner video disturbing. He's just standing there innocently talking and his murderer grabs him by the neck from behind like the killer on some procedural, and then the lot of them are on him like a pack of wolves. I can see if he was attacking someone measures like that might make some sort of sense, but he was just standing there talking with no idea they are about to murder him. I can't see any justification for attacking an unarmed, unresisting man with deadly force with no warning. It is even scarier that a jury looked at that and couldn't see that all the violence was on the side of the police predators, that ordinary citizens would think that is just and reasonable behavior.
* Apparently, the police drive by hit in 6th grader Tamir Rice was just the tip of the iceberg on how scary bad Cleveland police are. The Feds are going to step in, which is a nice start.
* Meanwhile, they are holding a wake for Akai Gurley, who was gunned down for innocently using the stairs in his own apartment building in Brooklyn with his girlfriend last month. The police who shoot him had been ordered not to patrol that stairwell and the murderer was patrolling with gun out and shot him on sight for no reason at all. It is alleged he immediately texted his union rep, though his Union disputes that. It is known that the police gave no warning before murdering him, nor was he committing a crime, nor did they bother to call for an ambulance or render medical assistance as is generally the case when police murder unarmed black men.
* Thursday, sleep was not good, for a variety of reasons, but I got some and managed to so all I'm doing as far as added Solstice decorations. I didn't hang the glass icicles because they are fragile and the construction shakes the walls. Also, I am not entirely sure how I will hang them here with the lintel wood so hard. Next year, maybe. After there were visitors and pie. Yesterday's clipping really did help. It's far from solved the dreads problem, but there's a stretch of tummy fur that's nice again.
* What is the deal with Gothmas? Several years ago, I saw someone call Halloween "Goth Christmas," which was apt, especially the way we celebrate it with Halloween trees, and lights, and ornaments, and decroations, and presents, and gatherings of friends.
So then I thought, What if I just took the season from September to New Years and called it Gothmas. I leave the trees up and just stick the sf and fantasy themed ornaments I used to use for Solstice back when I had a partner who longed for a Christmasy type analog. I also still have some inherited or gifted Christmas things, many more since we emptied the off site storage. It makes me happy to see TARDISes, LoTR, Star Trek, and Star Wars things hanging next to bats and pumpkins, with crocheted snowflakes to make it wintery. The clear Christal Creche looks nice with the white fairy lights as does the Halloween village. It's all Gothmas now. The big old Tree Topper is in the window display with my DS-9 space station, Halloween and Christmas candle lights, and a weird tiny handmade village I found tucked in with the ornaments and I have no clue as to the origin of.
Gothmas. It works for me. Also, Christmas creep starts in August now. I rather like the idea of Halloween fighting back hard.
Next year I may but up the Sf and fantasy stuff with the Halloween ornaments in the first place and save snowflakes and more winter specific for December.
