* NYC, sensibly has an ebola plan in place, being the place that was most likely to get one or more ebola cases before the epidemic is over. They designated Bellevue to be their official ebola treatment hospital, with a four bed capacity and have been training staff all month so they'd be ready.
This turns out to be a good thing, as a courageous Doctors without Borders Doctor recently returned from Guinea has turned himself in for fever and tested positive for ebola. He was self monitoring. They have put his girlfriend in isolation, though she is not symptomatic and therefore not yet contagious. They started contact tracing the moment he turned up.
Three cheers for NYC for taking sensible advanced measures to be ready for this contingency and having all their procedures in place.
Can we get our National Public health Funding back now so we can start rehiring all those Public health workers the Republicans fired in their War Against the General Welfare of the country, and put similar plans in place in all major cities, not just for ebola, but for all public health emergencies? Can the CDC be properly funded again while we are at it? Please? Pretty please? Because it's not just ebola that we need these structures in place for. I realize that weakening our defenses to give more handouts to the 1% and major corporations sounds like a great idea for Republicans, but the point of government is to look after the best interest of the country as a whole. Public health funding is the right and patriotic thing to do.
