* Thousands of Yazidis have escaped the IS siege on their own and have taken refuge with the Kurds in the North. Iraqi authorities in the North are cooperating and supporting Kurdish forces. Given the long history of brutal persecution of Kurds in Iraq and Syria, this is a big deal. The French are planning to send weapons to the Kurdish fighters. We are still sending humanitarian shipments Horrific things keep happening in IS controlled areas, and i honestly haven't the heart to write about it.

* Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is stepping down after all.

* Ferguson police not only attacked a news crew from Al Jazeera with tear gas and dismantled their equipment, but they arrested a man for sitting in his car and filming them while black. As we know, it is illegal to be outside of your home while black in Ferguson.

* The state patrol has taken over policing Ferguson from the police rioters, and (Surprise!) with the police no longer randomly assaulting peaceful protesters, all the violence stopped.

* I am so fucking relieved that the news outlets are responding to the brutal press crack down in Ferguson by sending a small army of camera crews so they can film each other being brutalized. I thought the press might be dead in this country.

* Protests against police randomly murdering unarmed black people are spreading to other cities.
