It feels obscene to me that they are using Freddy Mercury's voice at an event where he wouldn't have been welcome had he lived and while they are rounding up people for rainbow flags all over the town where the event is being held.

* Re: Helix. The character I actually liked is Doreen. I think you see the problem. Also, I'm having a hard time believing in most of the characters as scientists, and having all the villains being PoC is a clear problem. You know me. I love outbreak fiction. I was a 14th century specialist. I watch modern epidemics, and when I had access to them, I used to read the CDC Mortality and Morbidity Reports for fun. When I say this show is not much working for me... Yeah.
* Re: Bitten. I was not impressed with the book when I read it for a whole lot of reasons. (Tropes and cliches I find irritating in werewolf fiction in particular and supernatural romance in general. Rapey love interest, etc..) I'm not all that impressed with the TV Show either. I'm thinking this is a franchise that would benefit from drifting away from the book, but they are sticking mighty close.

Date: 2014-02-09 11:15 am (UTC)Bitten is far too loyal to the book - keeping all the whole "rawr wolfy alpha male" and the ridiculous "only female werewolf, precious, who everyone wants to rape" themes. And being just boring for people who read the book...
