* Props to Criminal Minds for knowing what the actual Star Chamber was. In common vernacular "Star Chamber Justice" means tyrannical and unfair. Want to know why? the Star Chamber was the only court in England where a commoner could get a fair hearing in a land dispute with a noble. (The practice up until then was for the noble to judge his own case, as he doubled as a magistrate and no one cared that this was a conflict of interest. Not suprisingly, the nobles always found in their own favor). The rich and powerful considered this incredibly unfair and so the name of the fairest court in the country got smeared and dragged in the mud. This phrase is still used incorrectly as most people have no idea what the Star Chamber was: a court designed to right wrongs those with power inflicted on ordinary people. In seems we could use a little of the true star chamber Justice in the United States, seeing how many homes have been stolen by the banks in illegal foreclosures in the last few years, for example.
