The night before, I twice failed to fill my car with gas, and I don't like leaving town without a full tank. Between this and a pharmacy run triggered by me realizing I hadn't a key OTC for Friday, we left town about a half hour later than hoped, but the drive down was fast and pleasant. We met up with some of Greenwick and Djinni's delightful friends in Mt. Vernon, who led us to another also delightful friend of theirs in Seattle. We hung out there chatting and nomming a good meal. We left for the theater enough early that we could find a parking spot in the University bookstore lot a few blocks from the theater and we were just around the corner from the entrance in our line. There was a grate to sit on and members of our group could take turns going to a near by coffee shop.

After, we went back to pick up my car and get a map to the freeway entrance. It was a reasonable degree of foggy at first, but we hit a wall of thick pee soup fog in North Everett where the visibility was so bad I had trouble spotting the exit ramp signs. We pulled off and ended up staying at a Quality Inn. This was more than I wanted to spend on the trip, but as hotels go, was good value for the money and worth it to not die. Seriously, Quality Inns were sort of crap when I was a kid, but this one wasn't that much more expensive than a Hotel 8, had reasonably comfortable beds, an excellent bathroom, free wifi, and a surprisingly good complimentary breakfast, with refrigerator and micro included in the room. Given the difference in price between this and the more expensive hotel where they hold Orycon, the Quality Inn in North Everett seemed like a ridiculously good deal. (No restaurant or room for a convention, obviously. I'm just talking about the bedrooms). Sure, the furnishings aren't as pretty, but as a refuge from the fog it was a complete win. Alas, we were literally ten minutes to late to order delivery pizza, so we spit my third of a loaf of banana bread and Greenwick's oranges for a snack. We talked for a while and crashed. I don't sleep well in hotels just generally, so was up for breakfast. We ate, longed around a bit to let more fog burn off. With the exception of an asshole who tried to run us off the road by trying to change lanes into the passenger side of our car, the drive home was uneventful. There was a left shoulder just there and they figured out they were about to crash into us about a hand's breadth before they did.

The cats had made quite a bit of mess in my absence, as cats under stress often do. I just wanted pettins and a nap, but I fed everybody, mopped, and changed my sheet first. We did get good pettins and nap eventually at least.
