RIP Peter O'Toole

I know it was inevitable, that he's been frail for decades. It still makes me sad that he isn't out there in the world somewhere being fabulous. His acting was hauntingly good, and he brought a complexity and vulnerability to so many things. There was a beautiful eccentric quality about him in and out of character. I will never forget his eerily spot on Katherine Hepburn impression and his version of Lion in Winter will likely always be in my top five favorite films. He was the only good thing about the travesty that is the movie, Troy. His Priam could have rung tears from the hardest heart. He did everything so beautifully, even when the material was terrible, and his life was epic.

I know other people will do a more coherent job of summing up his life and career and the quality about him that made him shine. All I can really say is that something about him sang to me since I was very small and it makes me weep to think he's not here any more.
