gwydion* Today Congress voted to kick 1.3 million people off unemployment three days after Christmas causing massive human misery and doing even more damage to the economy as Republicans believe that we need to punish the people who lost their jobs because of the Bush economic crash and anyway, that money is better spent on keeping payments to Doctors high.
* Michigan Republicans just passed a law require women to purchase separate rape insurance if they want survives covered after they are raped. They are so in love with big intrusive government that they are intervening in the private insurance market so as to further punish rape survivors by making it their fault if they didn't plan ahead for their own rape. Take a moment to consider just how much you have to hate women to do that. People opposed to this incredibly cruel law have 90 days to gather signatures to block the law.

* If the the Republicans want women to buy rape insurance as part of their required planning for being raped in the future, are they going to require all citizens to buy murder insurance?
After all, rape survivors are not responsible for being raped, but Republicans think they should be financially responsible for associated treatment anyway. Shouldn't the same standard be applied to murder victims?
Somehow, I don't think so. I am pretty sure they think assaults on women are somehow the woman's fault. There is some pretty deep misogyny going on here.
* BTW, Rape Insurance doesn't actually exist, so they are demanding women not only plan in advance for their future rapes and pay extra money because they might be raped, but they are really just denying them health insurance when they are assaulted. Go figure, no insurance company thinks offering "rape insurance" is a good idea.
