* Just a reminder people still need help after the Typhoon:

* Re: Filibuster Reform. It turns out Harry Reed actually does possess a bit of spine. Who knew? I had assumed he was invertebrate from his behavior up until now. BTW, the folks whining that this somehow ends bipartisanship and the Democrats are big meanies for not once again cutting a deal with the Republicans to get votes on judicial nominees that the Republicans will immediately throw out the second a nominee comes before the Senate are clearly full of shit. The Republicans have made and broken those deals over and over. You can not deal with people who don't keep them and bipartisanship died when Republicans decided that every nominee and piece of legislation would require a super majority instead of saving it for things that matter.

Yes, I get how this could be bad next cycle, but as of the the beginning of Obama's Presidency, Republicans deliberately broke the system. This is why we can't have nice things.

* Fannish things seeping into my dreams: 1. A Torchwood episode somewhere between Season two and COE in which the team investigates Jonathan Rhys Meyers's Dracula, who has become fixated on Gwen. Alas, there was no actual sex in this one, though there was some nudity. 2. A dream in which there was a massive expo to honor the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who with all these gorgeous coats inspired by the Doctors and Torchwood characters for sale in various sizes.

I want both these things to exist.

* Grim:
Jake: She just wasn't normal.
Nick: Nobody is, Jake. It's Portland.
Bwahahahahaha!

* Dracula:
Imagine how much better the rest of the series would have been if the young lover had gone hunting Grayson instead of killing himself like a worn out trope. Imagine if his grief made him into a hero.

* A particularly appealing set of Yules has dropped over at BPAL.

I can imagine the fillibuster working as an idea (though my British mind boggles at it) but it's an idea that works only when people follow the unwritten rules (which is too often a Thing in politics). Use it in extreme circumstances when you absolutely have to stop something or ensure that the other party is REALLY determined to make it happen rather than doubtful. Not "use it all the damn time because you're having a tantrum."

BPAL is nailing me right now in terms of imps. Just got in my anniversary imps ( _____ Phoenix) and ordered the Yule imps yesterday. Why does this release have to have so many appealing things? They're sort of taking over my house a little. Who knows, maybe I'll like one or two of the new things enough to get a full bottle.

This Yule is ridiculously attractive. Luckily Halloweenies weren't that appealing to me this year.

Il_volpe makes lovely custom imp boxes out of cigar boxes if storage is becoming an issue.
