* Remember how the studies of Charter Schools in Texas and Illinois from the '90's showed that if you do apples to apples comparisons with Public Schools with equivalent student populations, at best Charter schools are about as good as public schools and are on average much worse. Historically, Charter Schools just break Unions and impose segregation, usually at a great waste of public money. Republicans thought the results were so much to their liking they exported it to other states.

The latest comprehensive figures are in, and Surprise! The results are the same as they were in 2000. You pay teachers crap, fail to require standards and certification, and let anti-intellectuals set curriculum, and you waste public money on segregated schools that are best about as good as public schools and on average are much worse.:

Now imagine what would have happened if instead of wasting money and effort on repeating a failed experiment on a grand scale, we put that money and effort into giving kids a quality education with low class sizes, decent textbooks, and buildings that aren't falling down. Better yet, what if we fully funded Public Education for the first time ever in this country so we could give the kids needing the most help the quality of education we gave those who already have all the advantages. What if we made sure those students were fed and had a safe place to sleep and proper medical care? What if we invested in the children of eople who work for a living instead of punishing them for the accident of their birth by ensuring the deck is stacked against them even further?

* Despite all the howling and harassment from Hector, I did get a start on paper bureaucracy last night. I've filled stuff out and compiled a list of drive around town and phone bureaucracy. Somehow I spaced needing an HIV test for one of the document packets. Doh!

I think I just had pie making fail.
