* DOMA has been repealed! No it doesn't legalize marriage in the states that prohibit it, but it means that things like taxation, inheritance, survivor benefits, and immigration law now recognize same sex and trans marriages. It's huge. People will no longer lose their homes when a husband or wife dies. The government will no longer be breaking up our families when the couple is International or when a spouse dies. People can apply for spousal visas instead of having to pretend to be strangers for immigration purposes. Also, states will likely have to honor marriages performed elsewhere which will fundamentally erode the right of some states to discriminate. (Though that will likely take another court case, the precedents are pretty clear). It's not the whole thing, but it's miles closer.

* Measure 8 was a partial victory. There was a chance SCOTUS could simply legalize all our marriages, but that didn't happen. However, they did re-legalize marriage in California. There is a temporary stay at the State level, but marriages are expected to resume in a month.

* The NAACP and other civil rights groups really came through for us on the DOMA repeal. Given how they just got fucked on the right of POC to vote in the South, now would be a really good time for QUILTBAG groups to come through for the NAACP et al.. Just saying.

* Yes, marriage equality is also a trans issue. Yes, we have full equality in some states, but in some states we can opposite marry only, in others we can only same sex marriage, in Texas, our marriages simply aren't legal. This is fucked up. Is it the most important for of discrimination we face? No. I'd but the whole we get murdered and in a lo of places the police don't investigate and if we do, people get off or get a slap on the wrist for murdering us as the top priority. Also, I'd sure like it to be illegal for hospitals to let us bleed to death rather than treat us they way it is for everybody else. I'd list things like the need for GENDA and the right to pee in public restrooms ahead of marriage equality. Still, we need marriage equality for the same reasons everyone else does and it will help people like the ones who lose everything when their spouses die. It's also a step towards the government recognizes us as fully human which would be a help.

* Texas filibuster update: Republicans ruled Wendy Davis strayed from the topic towards the end and they killed her filibuster, but what with noise from the crowd, other Democrats asking procedural questions, and it being so close to the deadline, the anti-women's rights republicans could not take all the votes in time. The republicans then tried to back date it, but it was live on TV, so that got overthrown. They will likely try again Monday and similar measures go forward elsewhere. Constant vigilance, Folks.

* I am keeping an eye on the Trayvon Martin trial, but I admit to finding the speculative nature of most trial coverage annoying, hence me not commenting. I am terrified Zimmerman will get off; I very much want him to be found guilty. My silence on the nitpicky analysis of the trial minutia does not indicate a lack of interest in the outcome, but rather the opposite.

* Paula Deen was out crying that she was the real victim here, not the employees subjected to her racist hostile workplace. *side eye*

* Hector stole nearly all the sleep today. He was not only yelling directly into the ear hole for most of the sleep cycle, but he was doing things like punching me hard in the eye and clawing my face. Asshole. As a result, I'm not good with the concentrating or the focus. I did finish tomorrow's planning. I still have more cleaning and baking to do. Sigh.

* I had written this much when I started a reboot and stood up to make tomorrow's treat for the gamers. I promptly spilled water all over my laptop. It's draining in front of the bathroom fan. Any suggestions for saving it? In any case, this may effect my posting and availability as the big box is slow and frustrating.
