Candle Reviews
Dark Candles:
Dark Grove (Company says: A century year old grove of redwood trees with a cinnamon undertone.)
Unburned: strong, rich redwood, kisses by cinnamon. This is almost a leather accord, so I’m now wondering if redwood is a leather accord component Burning: The redwood is less like leather, but alternately the cinnamon comes out a little more, comparatively still soft, but cleverly blended.
Full Moon (Company says: You don't need a full moon to enjoy this magical blend of vanilla and spices of nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon. It is sure to entice all you howling wolves!)
Unburned: Mmmm… Egg nog spice. It’s cinnamon dominant with strong clove and nutmeg support painted over a pervasive canvas of vanilla. Burning: Vanilla really comes out with warming. The blend smoothes and softens with the clove mildly dominant in the scent blend.
Mage (Company says: A dark and masculine vetivert blend with desert florals and sage, reminiscent of ages past.)
Unburned: I love the desert florals and sage. It’s lovely and unusual. Vetiver is like the growl of a tiger under all that complex dry vegetation. It’s a clever design, but I don’t think I can handle my living space smelling like predator so I’m not lighting it up.
Midnight (Company says: A dark and musky masculine scent (Drakkar Type and Midsummer's Night Dream Type.)
Unburned: That is Drakkar with a hint of something else. Think sexy musky men’s cologne, with maybe a touch of rain. Burned: Less complicated and intense while burning, but still fundamentally Drakkar like.
Pennyroyal (Company says: Pennyroyal is a highly aromatic member of the mint family with lovely notes of menthol and bitter spices. Pennyroyal has been used as a medicinal herb for centuries, and is also effective as an insect repellent.)
Unburned: Yep, that’s pennyroyal, like peppermint tooth polish on steroids with a little extra something. Neither the cats nor I approve of pennyroyal so I’m not burning this.
Transformation (Company says: A sprig of spicy woodland berries and a sweet blend of rich red currant berries flowing throughout.)
Unburned: Very, very currant, with a spiciness that reminds me of cardamom and mulling spices. Very pretty, very late fall. Burned: Oddly understated when burned, a pleasant berry blend with a touch of that carnation.
Werewolf (Company says: A light blend embodying the feral side of man containing natural musk, leather, and Tiger Eyes.)
Unburned: Gorgeous worn leather dominant, with musk and something wintergreen and pennyroyal adjacent that I assume is meant to be tiger eye. It’s interesting and the mintiness goes really well with the leather, but I suspect it will go badly with my sensitivities so I’m not burning.
