gwydion* The UN Security council has voted to send an offensive force into the DRC where there is a particularly bloody civil war going on. I am very wary. They will be going up against guerrillas who fade into the civilian population. I am definitely horrified by the rape and murder of civilians and would very much love that to stop, but I'm not convinced sending in outside troops is going to turn out well as it sounds like Vietnam on steroids to me, and there is a long, ugly history of colonialism in the Congo which makes a UN invasion all kinds of problematic. I'm going to keep an eye on this one.
* The Supreme Court in Kenya is going to adjudicate the disputed presidential election.
* We sent planes to do military exercises with South Korean troops, which is no surprise given the North Koreans revoking the truce in the Korean war and saber rattling at South Korea. North Korea is saying that it's time to teach the USA a lesson. I'm pretty sure they don't dare invade, especially as they've been pissing off China lately and the whole the North Korean Army is literally starving thing.
