* Re: New Pope. They've picked the first South American Pope, which is clever of the Cardinals, cleverer than I expected really. Sounds like he's well liked and charismatic. He's also a Jesuit, which is fascinating. I'm not up enough on modern Catholic politics to know what his policies are likely to be, but I'm hearing he's anti-gay but pro-helping the poor. He picked the name "Francis," which is suggestive. I wish my Catholic friends the best and hope that this new Pope will be a reformer instead of another pro-child rape anti-progress guy. I would love for the Catholic Church to move into the 21st century. I would love for the Church to focus on helping the poor instead of oppressing people. I am not holding my breath for change, but oh would I love to see it.
* Sequestration is harming Community Health Centers. Community Health Centers provide the health care that keeps folks like me alive. Want to help save the part of the health care system that serves the poor? http://snacky.livejournal.com/774435.html?style=mine#
* The US military wants to remind rape survivors that "the rape is God's will" and therefore they are justified in punishing the survivors and letting the rapists go free. The women on the Congressional Arms Services Committee beg to differ. This shit needs to stop. It's evil and fundamentally wrong.

* Squirrel has finally adjusted to me not being able to hear him knocking on my door frame for attention an has started reaching past the door hanging to flick my lights. (We hang fabric in the doors for privacy so that the cats can move in and out freely with a minimum of drama.) I wanted to see a movie today, but did the grown up thing and did errands instead. I'm still so easily worn out. The antibiotics are gone and I'm still coughing, which is a worry. I am still deaf in one ear and having trouble with the other. It turns out the lawyer sent us entirely the wrong paperwork and I must go down to my bank during the overlap of east and west coast banking hours so we can conference call Merrill Lynch. I know the sensible thing to do is stay up all night and go down there at 9AM when they open on this coast, but I'm not convinced I have the strength for it. I need the money though.
* People keep telling me to watch the Community. I tried, folks. I really did try. I only made it through one and a half episodes. Jeff and Peirce are so aggressively obnoxious that I can't stick it out. It's not "Always Sunny" unpleasant, and if I were being actually paid to watch, I could manage, but this is nothing I'd do to myself for fun.
